    Hi all,

    I have a question...

I'm currently using a hercules RMX DJ controller to for EQ, pitch and jogging when mixing but want to use the iPad (touch OSC) for effects triggering, filters and key

I'm using MIDI channel 1 for the hercules stuff, and MIDI channel 2 for the Touch OSC, which will work fine. But what I'm struggling with, is if I invest in a new controller or have to use some CDJ's I can't seem to get my TouchOSC mapping 'imported' into the the existing Channel 1 mapping for CDJ's/Controller etc..

Does anyone know a way I can easily 'cut and paste' my TouchOSC mapping into a preconfigured controller mapping of some sort?

I am using X1 and M-Audio X Session controllers. I got Touch OSC for iPad and got it to work with Traktor.

However I encountered a few problems, for one I couldn't simply add OSC controls into existing setup. That means that if I wanted to have let's say only a jog wheel (I don't have one) and some knobs and keep all my assigns to the rest, I couldn't do it. Once I selected OSC as the control it took over everything. All my other controllers became useless. So I wasn't too happy wit that in fact as far as I remember it erased the entire Generic MIDI map page that I created.

So I would say, no it doesn't play well with others.

Aside from that the paramaters were not very configurable, I spent a lot of time trying to figure how to remap them. They appear as configurable but I couldn't find anything about that. I tried it months ago. And can't remember much other then that I gave up and reverted back.

I think my impression was that OSC kind of gives you a Dummy Mode. It becomes very basic and gimmicky.

I downloaded a demo version of Traktor and seeing this I have a blank setup now so I will play with it again and tell you what happens. If Hercules mapping is automatic and you didn't have to assign and MIDi then sure give it a go, if not I would suggest installing traktor somewhere else and trying it out there, because as I mentioned when I assigned it it took over everything, including loading and cueing. So be prepared for frustration and having to start from scratch.

That sounds lame, thanks for the advice I'll be sure to backup my mapping before working on it..!

The hercules requires manual config, although there are some out there that people have shared. I only want to use the hercules for a physical jog wheel, EQ, volume, gain and crossfader.. I am creating my own TouchOSC interface with channel 2 mapping for things like filter and delay so it works similar to a Lemur alongside my setup.

What I dont want to happen.. is I configure Traktor to work with my hercules and TouchOSC perfectly and then have to re-do it again when I change equipment in the near future. I'd like to just 'copy' my TouchOSC (channel 2) mapping and then paste it into another config... for example at the moment channel 1 = Hercules, channel 2 = TouchOSC.. in 3 months I may have channel 1 = Kontrol S4, channel 2 = TouchOSC... do you see what I'm getting at..? Could cause a lot of trouble if I do ever change equipment

Update: Well, I decided to give it another go. I downloaded traktor 2.0 demo (I only have a previous version). And since it doesn't have any controllers assigned I figured I am safe. And surprisingly it works fine. So I just ran touch osc with all my controllers. I used it with X1 and that m-audio usb controller. X1 works fine with all the effects and loading, OSC does some basic EQ and jog wheel and M-audio does the pitch control.

But this was on a new system. I looked at the mapping called "jog on" and it looks pretty complicated, seeing how MIDI has only 128 channels a lot of them were taken by OSC so maybe, that was my problem since I already used up a lof of keys for my previous hardware, OSC took over a bunch and kind of forced itself into my maping. But having started from scratch I only added what they didn't have which suprisingly was pitch control. Kind of a weird feature to omit if you ask me.

So I am pretty sure what I said still holds true. You said you wanted the jog to stay on hercules and since OSC already has a jog map it might work if it's using different MIDI channels otherwise it might freak out. Download the demo of Traktor and set it up with OSC as the primary input and then maybe add your jog wheels through generic MIDI and see if it works. That way if it screws up it's only in the demo version.
