    Hi,

I'm trying to implement something similar to the Fader FX Theory stuff in Traktor Pro (http://www.djtechtools.com/2008/12/15/fader-fx-theory/).

    I have a Xone:1D controller.

One of the fundamental aspects of this is to map more than one Traktor control element to a knob. This part is easy. The tricky part is how to map the second control to only a portion of the knob range?

    For example:
Map Filter 1 Dry/Wet to Knob 1 with full range
Map Filter 1, effect 1 amount to start at the 50% range on knob 1 (midi value 64 - 128)

They have a tsi file for the VCI-100 control surface so it must be possible (the file is too large to dissect and figure it out).

I have attached their tsi file for reference.

    Thanks,
    Tom

my guess is setting the second effect at a "relative" instead of absolute knob setting.

Either that or Something Like Bomes MIDI Translator.

I have tried the relative mode, but with no luck.

You have to remember a couple things:

    1) The VCI-100se's have a special firmware installed. The exact specifications of the firmware aren't public (that I know of). All I know is that Ean's been able to get more functionality out of this firmware level

    2) Traktor Pro has that filter setting built into it. What you're referring to, I believe, is how to have that same dual-mode filter knob in T3. This is when you'd double-map (actually triple map) a control.
    ---
Ean isn't supplying Bome's translations with any of the .tsi files for the VCI-100se. It's all in the firmware.

One more thought...Tom...are you on a PC or Mac? I don't have any A&H products, but do they have some sort of configuration program that is supplied?

I know with my Novation Remote SL25 there is a config program. I was able to tell a knob to output specific midi values depending on where it was. So if I wanted to output something between 1-64 and then 65-128 I would set up the knob to out put 2 values...32 and 75 (it doesn't matter as long they are in between). Those values would correspond to specific effects or what not in Traktor.

This takes some research to accomplish, but once you get a hang of it, it's a really powerful tool.

I am on a PC and I am using Tractor Pro.

The Xone:1D does not have a software configuration program to speak of. It does have hardware configuration program but there is not enough control to do what you speak of. The control I believe is limited to just changing the CC # values.

you dont need bomes to do what we did. The goal was to give this functionality to everyone without a firmware update or middle software like bomes. I will work on a tutorial on how to do this later this week and post it on the site.

If you could do me a favor though, and not post our TSI's for direct download. We provide them for free but ask that people sign up to the list so I can send them updates as the file is improved and fixed. That file for instance is very old, and there have been many improvements since then. Anyone can sign up to receive the current version here:

Sorry for posting the tsi, I will see if I can have it removed. If you read my post(s) you will see that what I am trying to accomplish is more general. I want to implement the theory on ANY midi controller. From your article it sounds like there is specific firmware in the VCI-100 so that makes it specific to this one controller (or controller family).

What does the VCI-100 provide that allows for this directly that other controllers do not?

have you posted the tutorial about how to get multiple functions out of one fader using different midi range values ? would love to know how it's done
