    Hi everyone,

I've just started to learn how modifiers work and has come up with a perfect solution for my setup.

I've got a Vestax VCI-100 which has three rather independent buttons in the upper left corner which i planned to use like this:

BUTTON 1 (when pressed lights up and controls A+B)
BUTTON 2 (when pressed lights up and controls C+D)
BUTTON 3 (when pressed lights up and toggles file browser)

Also, i want the lights on these three buttons to switch between each other depending on which button is active right now.
Only one button can be allowed to shine at a time, so if i'm currently operating deck A+B (BUTTON 1) and wants to switch to File Browser mode i just press BUTTON 3, the controls change and BUTTON 1 goes dark and BUTTON 3 lights up.

    Is this doable?

    it's doable.

I've done something similar, but the three buttons select focus for deck A,B, or C.

the four tiny black buttons next to them swap between 4 different modes, browser, and the three advanced buttons: move, cue, and grid.

each time one of the buttons are pressed it changes the panel, or into browser mode for the top button, and changes the functions of the 5 buttons designed to be used for the browser.

it's all done with one modifier and with direct selection for browser mode and panel display.

    try this for your setup:

    button 1 (noteD7):
    Modifier 1 - Direct - button - set value 0
    Modifier 1 - Output - controller range 0,0 - midi range 0,127
    Layout select - Direct - Button - A+B layout
only browser toggle - direct - button - browser default

    button 2 (noteD#7):
    Modifier 1 - direct - button - set value 1
    modifier 1 - output - controller range 1,1 - midi range 0,127
    layout select - direct - button - C+D layout
only browser toggle - direct - button - browser default

    button 3 (noteE7):
    Modifier 1 - Direct - button - set value 2
    modifier 1 - output - controller range 2,2 - midi range 0,127
only browser toggle - direct - button - browser only

In addition, all the functions that you want shifted have to include the modifiers. For instance, anything controlling Deck A and B must have the modifier "M1,0". Deck C and D must have the modifier "M1,1"

so, deck A "scratch on" is naturally set as note A#12. it will be shared with deck C. if the modifiers Deck A and C will both stop when you touch the platter, not just the one your light in the upper left corner shows.

    Scratch On - Deck A - Hold - Modifier M1,0
    Scratch On - Deck C - Hold - Modifier M1,1

Oh, goodie, I'll give it a try. Thanks!

However... i wonder if it's possible to toggle a deck view of C+D alone? The only way I have been able to toggle it is between A+B or A+B & C+D...

Can the A+B decks be hidden to show only C+D?
    ---
    It worked, thanks a lot!

I understand all of the commands except why there has to be a: Browser Toggle - Direct - Button - Browser Default
    ..on button 1 and 2?
Isn't it enough to have a browser toggle on button 3?

Been poking around and finally getting myself where i want to be (MIDI-wise)...

However, with the previous settings applied (allowing me to switch controls between DECK A+B, DECK C+D and BROWSER) i don't know how to configure yet nother modifier within the first one. (I want to be able to switch my hotcue buttons to loop buttons for instance)

    Any ideas anyone?

not that I'm aware of. I think you have to do it with deck A+B in Mini Mode. I think this is best so for C+D as well that way you can see what's going on in your tracks anyhow. You shouldn't need to see the browser anyway since you select your music in browser mode.

the browser is not a toggle. it's a direct command. so to switch out of browser mode you need the button to do so.

browser default = "not in browser mode."

Yea, switching between full/mini mode when i toggle deck A+B / C+D seems to be the only way to go...

Just one more question, how do i enable yet another modifier within my mode 1 or 2 (want to be able to change my hotcue buttons into loop controllers, either by activting a toggle (caps lock) or holding button down (shift)?

Thanx a lot for all of your help btw! :)

    EDIT:

I have created a toggle button for activating the loop function with modifier#2 (my intent is to be able to toggle between hotcues and loop functions on the same four buttons.

the hotcues are set to M1=0
the loop functions are set to M2=0
when i go into loop mode and hit a button to change loop size, the hotcue is also triggered, and vice versa... it seems like the toggle isnt working?... I've checked a thousand times so that the hotcue functions are set to M1=0, the loop functions M2=0, and the toggle to set value M2=0

    What could be the problem?

you need to be triggering the same modifier. you are triggering different ones.

Previously we used Modifier 1 to change between control of decks A+B and decks C+D. this was modifier M1-0 and M1-1

you need to set your next modifier to use Modifier M2-0 for cues and M2-1 for loops.

After doing so let's look at one of your hot cue buttons on the left side of the VCI:
when a Hotcue is set to M1=modifier 1,0 and M2=modifier 2-0, you will control deck A hotcues. Set loop functions on the same button to M1=1,0 and M2=2,1.

in this instance, M1 is saying "deck A" (mod 1,0) and M2 is saying Hotcue (mod 2,0) or loop (mod 2,1).

to use deck C, change M1 to mod 1,1 (deck C+D) and using the same M2 settings (m2=2,0 and 2,1)

Are you guys able to OUTPUT different LED's depending on whether deck A+B or C+D is active? e.g., the "Loop Active" LED (if such a thing is available on the VCI-100)?

I don't have a VCI myself, but a BCR2000. I found that I can't combine modifiers and "Output" style MIDI mappings. Whenever I map something as "Output", Traktor ignores the modifier, and ALWAYS outputs it. This makes it impossible to have 1 LED(bar) display Deck A's loop sometimes, and Deck C's loop other times.

What are your experiences on this?

Yet again, it works! *humble bow*

However, for some reason i can't seem to be able to activate the LED on my button of choice by just using these mappings:
(The modifier that changes my layout selection activates it's LED this way)

    MODIFIER#2: Direct -> Button -> Value: 0
    MODIFIER#2: Output -> LED -> ctrl-range: 0,0 midi-range: 0,127

In order to get the LED toggle to work i also need to assign a toggling function, like "Key On" - but that's far from optimal.

Any ideas as to why this is the case/how to solve it?

Has anyone figured out how to turn the LEDS on and off with this yet?

I have a hercules rmx and have assigned source1 button to be a modifier to make the controls on the left control deck c.

    source 1 = modifier 2, modifier 2 value 1 = deck c, and modifier 2 value 0 = deck a

Perfect.... the only problem is i can't get the LED behind the source button to light up when mod2=value1

As you can imagine this is quite annoying when you are well into a mix and there is no indication as to which deck you are about to control, A or C

This is the modifers Midi set up at the mo:
    _____________
Mod#1 = scratch button, a simple shift key = hold
    Mod#1 = output = LED = controller range 0 , 1
    midi range 0, 127
(the above works fine and LED under scratch lights up)

    Mod#2 = source button 1 = direct = value 1 when Mod#1=0
Mod#2= output = LED (same as above)

    Mod#2 = direct = Value 0 when Mod#1 = 1
    _____________

The above modifiers function fine, the LED for mod#2 won't light up though

    Any solutions?

    never mind, figured it out.

I wasn't duplicating the mod2 for the led output (making a new one fom scratch) nd tractor didn't like it

create a second output for mod#2, set the value to 0. I've been able to get mod lights to toggle this way.

    yea cheers,

something clicked a short while ago and i got it working thanks.

Shame that the modifiers can't have a simple toggle on or off function would make things a lot easier for both midi mapping and when mixing
