    Hi.

The "Advanced Orchestra" library by Peter Siedlaczek is available in Akai, and Giga formats. Has anyone tried importing this library to Kontakt on a Mac. with success ? if yes, which version, Akai, or Giga ? I have G4 dual 800 with the superdrive.

    Thanks.

I can only speak as a PC user, but I have tried Advanced Orch in AKAI format, and it works quite well (but you have to re-adjust some ADSR settings sometimes). I also tried Garritan Strings in Giga format, and my experience has been that it takes WAY longer to read/load Giga programs )probably the compression), and I had this strange thing happen where all the samples above approx. C4 were panned to the left, despite there being no panning at all in the module, and the samples played in stereo in the Sample Editor. I don't know what is going on there, but it happened with almost every program I brought in.

I didn't experience that with AKAI samples; I'd put my money on the AKAI format as it doesn't have as many customized parameters that Kontakt will get wrong - it makes a mess of Gigasampler ADSR/LFO/Effect settings - you have to take a lot of time to correct them.

I'm curious to see what Mac users are experiencing; some people can't even load AKAIs with 1.11 - this hasn't been a problem for me.

You’d want to go with the Akai version for this. In the Giga version, all the various instrument articulations are setup in key switched dimensions. Kontakt doesn’t translate these at this point.

Has anyone tried the "Compact Edition" of Advanced Orchestra. I read a review that wasn't that stellar. But right now the only orchestral sounds I've got are Sonic Implants Orchestral Strings and Orchestral Woods & Brass, most of which don't sound very good. Would the Advanced Orchestra Compact Edition be substantially better?

That’s an interesting feat, since SI has yet to release an Orchestral Woods & Brass library.

SI Orchestral Strings and Garitan Orchestral Strings are the two premiere string libraries. The AO strings have never been well regarded. If you don’t like SI, better hire you own string players.

I assume you're referring to their GIGA "Symphonic Strings." I'm actually referring to their "Solo & Ensemble Strings," which is an inexpensive soundfont bank. Also, inexpensive woodwinds & brass soundfont banks from SI. So I'm just looking for a step up from these inexpensive soundfonts, as I can't afford the Symphonic Strings.
