Advice for users of Windows 7 64-bit and Komplete 6 and Kore 2

Issue: you can only use the about 400 Kore 2 factory sounds in the Kore 2 browser as available sounds, but you see more than about 4,000 unavailable sounds. “Unavailable” means you can see many more sound names (when you don’t hide them in the browser) but you can’t play them in Kore 2. In Kore 2 itself, you are only able to use the sounds included with Kore 2 and none from Komplete 6. Since one of the primary purposes of Kore 2 is to integrate into one database all of your sounds, you are perplexed.

Resolution: you need to redirect certain paths where Kore 2 finds things.

The following information is accurate as of the date of this posting. It is my understanding that Native Instruments intends to update these programs in the near future to automatically correct things. In the meantime the resolution as I will explain here will help you until then.

Reason for the problem: Windows 7 64-bit has two Program Files folders: “Program Files” for 64-bit programs and “Program Files (x86)” for 32 bit program files. All of the seven Komplete 6 programs are installed into the “Program Files” folder. But Kore 2 is installed into the “Program Files (x86)” folder. Thus you have to “tell” Kore 2 where to find the necessary information about the Komplete 6 programs, since by default as Kore 2 is installed, it has no idea about the fact there are now two Program Files folders.

Kore 2 has “integrated engines” to be able to use sounds from six out of the seven Komplete 6 programs. (Battery 3 is not “integrated” into Kore 2, however with the fix I will show you here, it’s kits can be listed and played through Kore 2, but its parameters can’t be tweaked in Kore 2.) Of the six remaining programs, three programs’ sounds will be completely integrated into Kore 2 after you redirect certain paths where Kore 2 finds them. These three programs that I will explain how to work with Kore 2 are: FM8, Reactor 5 and Massive. The remaining programs (Absynth 5, Kontakt 4 and Guitar Rig 4) have different procedures as explained at the end of this post.

Here is how to change the paths for Kore 2 to find the Komplete 6 sounds:

Open Kore 2. Then click as follows:

    File
    Options
    Plugins
    Set

This sequence of clicks will bring up a browser window where you can click on the appropriate folder to set the new path. This is where you find the folder you want:

    Program Files
    Native Instruments
    Komplete 6
    VST Plugins 32 Bit

The folder “VST Plugins 32 Bit” is what you click on.

    Then click “OK”.
    Then click “Rescan”.
    Then click “OK”.

Now you should see in your Kore 2 browser ten times as many sounds that are now available to use (either from your keyboard or if not, then from the “play” button at the top middle of the Kore 2 screen).

We have two more steps. You can play your Komplete sounds now in Kore 2, but now we have to also set up the correct path for the Kore 2 effects.

Close Kore 2 and open up Windows Explorer. We have to move three Kore 2 .dll files from their default location to two new locations. By default, these three files are found in:

    Program Files (x86)
    Native Instruments
    VST Plugins

Cut these three files out of the “VST Plugins” folder and paste them into the following two folders:

    Program Files (x86)
    Common Files
    Native Instruments
    Kore 2
    Plugins

    Paste them into “Plugins”.

Also paste them into the following folder:

    Program Files
    Native Instruments
    Komplete 6
    VST Plugins 32 Bit

Paste them into the folder “VST Plugins 32 Bit”.

Now “rescan” again in Kore 2.

Now should be able to see the Kore 2 effects as available in Kore 2.

    Close Kore 2.

    One last step:

In order to play the Reaktor 5 sounds in Kore 2, we need to adjust a path in Reaktor 5.

Open Reaktor 5 and click as follows:

    System
    Preferences
    Directories
The folder icon to the left of Factory Content

This sequence of clicks will bring up a browser window where you can click on the appropriate folder to set the new path. This is where you find the folder you want:

    Program Files
    Native Instruments
    Reaktor 5
    Library

The folder “Library” is what you click on.

Then click “x” in the top right corner of this little browser window.
    Then close Reaktor 5.

Then open Kore 2 again and rescan.

    Then reboot your computer.

    That’s it.

The remaining three programs (Kontakt 4, Guitar 4 and Absynth 5) have their own knowledge base articles to help you with using them with Kore 2. These articles are found here:

    http://www.native-instruments.com/kn.../questions/842
After installing ABSYNTH 5 there are no KoreSounds for it in KORE 2

    http://www.native-instruments.com/kn.../questions/839
After installing KONTAKT 4 there are no KoreSounds for it in KORE 2

Essentially Absynth 5 and Kontakt 4 require that their sounds be copied from their respective folders in the “Program Files” folder to specific locations in the “Program Files (x86)" folder so that Kore 2 can see them.

    http://www.native-instruments.com/kn.../questions/840
After installing GUITAR RIG 4 there are no KoreSounds for it in KORE 2

If you feel intimidated by these steps, then just access your Komplete 6 sounds by using your individual programs as standalone or as plugins in your DAW (Sonar, Cubase, Protools, etc.) and forget about this feature of Kore 2 until Native Instruments releases updates to do all this automatically.

    ?

Ah- you shouldn't have to go through that if you set your plugin folder appropriately when you install Komplete and Kore. The only thing you really need to do is change the path in Reaktor's preferences.
