    Hello,

if you have the rights for the sounds you use in your self made kontakt instrument you can share them. But you know of course that they will only work in the full kontakt version. There are many kontakt instruments out there made exactly that way and really many good ones.

Thanks for your reply but I'm afraid I'm not understanding - I am talking about the production of sound fonts - which can then be picked up by many softwares - including a javascript one I have written myself using an open source library from github. My question is about license issues of samples output in a webfont format e.g. *.sf2. So when you say they only work in the full Kontakt player I am not sure what you are getting at?

Then the same applies, if you use your own sounds as source (no commercia library), then you can output or convert it into soundfonds files and use it, offer it as download.

Are you maybe saying ...that I can only process the sounds in the full Kontact version?
What about samples that are provided in the cheaper versions? Are all/ some/ any of those licensed for unrestricted use? Thanks.

No sorry that was a misunderstanding on my side, i actually don't know if you can create sf2 files with kontakt player, i doubt it. But of course once created you should be able to open and use it in every program, even hardware, supporting sf2 files.

You can use them for songs but not to make own libraries and then offer them to others but maybe Matt @ NI knows for sure.

Some advice from NI would be welcome. I have a javascript client side sample player that is currently playing open source sf2 files. These are downloaded from the a server which could be the same as that serving my player. That would prevent just anyone grabbing the files. But i am trying to keep everything as free and open source as possible.

Kontakt cannot create Soundfont files, it has its own proprietary file format. You also cannot create Soundfonts from any Kontakt library then redistribute that, that is illegal.

Ok thanks. The references to it creating sf2 exports must be out of date i guess.

Kontakt could never save SF2 files, it could import them.
