OK. I was a frustrated Halion user for about a year. Halion sucks. One of the MAIN reasons Halion drove me crazy was this: If you are using it primarily as a drum sampler (several samples spread across the keyboard), in order to edit an *individual* sound without effecting the others, you had to remember to turn off the "edit all" button. The problem with this is that the state of the "edit all" button WAS NOT SAVED with the song. You open your song again, and the "edit all" button is magically lit again. You tweak one sample and ruin the settings for EVERY SAMPLE.

Now, this is idiotic, and I naively thought, "Native Instruments would NEVER do something so silly." So I bough Kontakt, and what do you know? If you have several groups lined up on your keyboard, you have to remeber to uncheck the "edit all" button to edit a single group. Save. Open. "Edit all" is once again checked. Why why why!!! This is SO counter-intuitive.

Can you PLEASE add this feature to a future update? Either the button retains its state upon close/open, OR, perhaps there are two different group modes, DRUM and NORMAL. In the DRUM MODE, there are several options related to the editing of groups. The other possibility can be that the default state of the edit all button is OFF. The worst that can happen is that you accidentally change the parameters of ONE SAMPLE thinking you are effecting ALL. Easy to fix, just undo the changes to that ONE SAMPLE, click "Edit all", than do it again. Much easier than losing all the settings for all your samples.

I agree; EDIT ALL = SATAN.

Once I've seperated groups, I almost never, ever, need to adjust all the groups simultaneously. I mean, what's the main volume/pan/tune knob for!?!?

I think it would be best if this was off by default - or even better - if there was a Global module that you could access totally seperately from the amplifier section.

Apart from that, Kontakt = God!

I agree with all of the above. "Edit All" is EVIL.

When I load up an instrument and quickly think of something to change, I usually end up screwing up the whole instrument cause of "Edit All." It should definitely:

    * be off by default -or-
    * it's status should be saved with the instrument -or-
    * there should be an option to have it off/on by default.

Even still, Kontakt is my favorite instrument.

Agreed. I'm trying to think of how the EDIT ALL button could actually be more clearly seperated; a big problem I've always had with Kontakt is that it isn't very clear whether you're editing ALL or individual groups - the only way you can tell is by the tiny, tiny text in the Group name or if the ADSR/Volume/Pan are drastically different than the others. It's just too easy to make mistakes. It also bugs me that you have to expand a module, just to edit Groups.

I do like the way Reason's NN-XT does it; you can select Zones individually, or there is a tab at the left that clearly indicates if Zones are grouped together. You can just click that tab if you want to do global edits - otherwise, if you click the Zone, you're just editing that Zone and not endangering the group.

I hate to mention other people's software on the NI forum, but that's the best solution I've seen so far. Kontkat RULES, but I would be SO happy if that EDIT ALL button was just disabled by default or if a different approach were used.

    Thanks,

best leave it off by default, while we're at it, how about the email subscription to a thread option being off by default also.

go to your 'profile', 'edit options' and uncheck 'subscribe to threads by email'

Hey bduffy, I think that all the "active" or "tweakable" zones in a group should be lit at the same time...so you know exactly what zones you are messing with. If you wanted to select one zone individually to move/edit, you could shift+click or something. I dunno.

By "active" and "tweakable" are you thinking the knobs or the Zones?

Yeah, it's tough because the way Kontakt is designed, it's a tough choice to think of how exactly you would show how things are grouped.

What about if the Amplifier/AHDSR moduels looked different if they are grouped? Highlighted or something...still, too subtle. Maybe a nice, readable Group name in the Amplifier section...?

I think, if a position of 'EDIT ALL' button was a part of a preset it would decrease amount of mistakes, considerably.

    Cheers,
    Vitaly.

not a solution, but a good help is the structure browser.
if you are browsing to your groups, you see which groups you are editing. and you can edit several groups together.

True...but the other day I was using the Structure Browser to edit Zones that were set on the same key to Cycle - and it wasn't selecting the right Zone half the time; I had to do the old "click+drag a zone out of the way, edit the lower zone, put the Zone back" thing.

I'd much rather be able to select Zones right there in the Editor. Oh well.
