I would argue that the mpc sounds no better than said software. ... I've done plenty of blind tests as well. no clear winner (though a few suprising pieces were picked as sounding thinner (mpc 60II, yamaha rs1000 (think that was the model number)

regardless it is not down to that. it's down to how you use it. I also like the mpc sequencer alot but would say that the way my maschine lets me do things has not been better at all as far as swing and quantize go. (more just in song arrangement *need tempo mapping!*)

NI and ableton actually have a close history. read up on abletons past.

I won't judge this mythical product until I can put hands on it. but when I do (and I'm sure i will) I hope it give maschine some real competition. would be nice to see REAL competition unlike spark and bpm

what software sequncer gives you access to your gear and preamps without using a a host?

    c'mon man are you serious?

i'll go for ultra clean sounds as close to the original wav form as possible coming from my interface with uncoloured pres into any 1/2 chanel i want to give me that colour, a distinct sound or simply dirty it up back into maschine.

your confusing what maschine is , its a arm of of your Whole setup,
from computer to the soundcard used, down to what external stuff you have in your chain.

and besides external stuff what about all the vst's that change/colour/dirty/compress/eq/ more and more vintage gear is being modeled also.

sound is percieved differnt by everyone, but my main point is this is software we are talking about that utilises the end-users hardware, so the sound out of your maschine software through what ever interface you own will sound differnt to mine.

what i hear sounds good real good.

    @Smithwessen

98% of the time, I am serious when it comes to my samplers.

I am not sure what the confusion is. But it is clear that Maschine doesn't sound better or worst than any software product. I hope we are not debating that. MPCs have digital I/O. From "my" experience, they sound as good as any software or hardware product I have ever used or owned. Does the MPCs digital I/O, analog I/O, or your favorite AD/DA converter add color? What ever anyone says, there will be one or more people that agree or disagree.

As far as software sequencers (Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, etc) they all support plug-ins. Plenty of hardware workstations and sound modules released in that past few years can operate as plug-ins. My Yamaha Motif ES rack I had over 6 years ago was a plugin I used within Nuendo. Never had to touch it in order to use it. Today, we also have AD/DA converters and amps from Apogee that can be controlled directly from Logic. Yes, we have come a long way. Now I am losing my chain of thought...lol

What is Maschine? I am certainly not confused. Its simple. Its a sampling drum machine sequencer like an MPC, MV, etc. But instead of it being a self-contained unit, its software resides on a computer. OS 1.6 allows us to use plug-in instruments. This is great because as a MIDI sequencer for external gear..it was/is average at best. OS 1.7 will have better integration with NI products. Awesome.

Now the point of this thread was to spread rumors that Akai/Ableton may come up with a similar product. If they can make money on such a product, then perhaps they will. The results would be good for consumers. As I have wrote in numerous threads, Maschine doesn't have all the sampling and sample editing tools I have grown to love in my hardware samplers (in fact, even the hardware workstations released in the past few years have come up short). I would completely give up hardware if NI programmers can accomplish this...or I would give up Maschine if Akai/Ableton can accomplish this.

    Win-win for consumers.....

But that may be like Akai trying to work with Roger Linn again or bringing JJ back into the fold to work on the OS for the MPC 2500/1000.....

    Ego's and money.....

All, why all this talk about a rumor? When and if it comes down, we will all take a look, and see if we can make better music with it. Make music now!

@hiphopblues cause it's fun to B.s. about gear... honestly do you think anyone is sitting around not making music just to wait for new gear? lol it's all in fun. I'm not losing sleep over it and I doubt anyone else on here is.

Guilty of breaking my own rule of not sticking my nose into things that don't concern me. Guess I'm not gearhead is all. Peace,

Jahrome I am so filthy jealous/envious.

Please start another thread and keep us posted.
What country are you in ? I'm in Oz.

Just got my Spark today and about to hook it up with Analogue Lab.

I feel so lucky as these are not avail for another month or two.

What size key did you get ? PM me if you want to chat as I would love to find out more until I get mine which I believe to be mid July.

Nothing is a game changer it's only how we cook in the kitchen with the utensils we have at our disposal.

    Cheers
