Did anyone else notice that,in the manual, Native Instruments thanked the other three piano manufacturers but not Steinway? and that the name Steinway and Sons is not on the piano? At first I thought this was because Steinway had deliberately sabotaged the piano so it could not be playable by professionals. But then I realized that the other pianos were just as bad in their own way.Whoever prepared these pianos obviously hated the bass and loved the mid range beyond all reason.Whoever created these pianos was either: a. totally unknowledgeable about pianos, b. totally uncaring about the end result, c. totally deaf like my dear friend Beethoven, or all of the above.
Anyway, does anyone know why NI didn't thank Steinway?

    Hi,

    "
The Concert Grand D is a unique Native Instruments creation based on high resolution samples from the most widely used concert piano in contemporary music, the Steinway™ Model D.
For the recording session we hired the finest Model D available directly from Steinway™, Hamburg. It is a three year old German Concert Grand D model in excellent condition and is regularly maintained by Steinway's best piano tuners.

The Concert Grand's intonation and regulation were optimized for the lightest playing style. Thus, even with very light strokes, an impressive sound spectrum and controllable tonal nuances are generated, resulting in wonderfully smooth and perfectly sounding pianissimo notes. This piano has an incredibly versatile sound and is particularly suited to solo piano work, jazz, classical, new age as well as other styles of music. "

It's the first time i hear a real Steinway D tone.

Others big Sampled piano library (Steinway) are joke.

And the problem you described doesn't occur with my Kawai MP9000 Piano as master keyboard.

And if you don't like the lower Keys programming, it's at nothing to do with each NI Akoustik samples.

Thanks to Steinway for their incredible Piano, and the good work they have done to this real Steinway D.

    Best,

Why do you (Olivierbergman) feel it necessary to defend NI to the death?

To say the other Steinway samples are a "joke" is to show ignorance for other products (like Ivory) that sound great in their own right (and actually work).

Perhaps you're on the payroll at NI or just love trashing products that you don't have to be a programmer to run.

NI needs to get it's act together if it plans on keeping customers!

Bravo Olan, bravo: Note, Olivier, that I have proved that the problem is not in my keyboard by using octave shift - the same notes on different keys are bad - and by the fact that different notes are bad on the Beckstein vs. the Steinway. See p2 of manual 'extend our gratitude' to every one but Steinway. Maybe Steinway absolutely did not want their name on such a ridiculous instrument. Yes, every time I sit down to it I think "Oh, this is wonderful," but after 5 minutes I just want to scream.

    Hi,

    because i love Akoustik.

It's simple , nice and indredible.

A great product ! (for the price)

2 click and it work !

don't need to be a programmer. Existing presets are already good and tweakable in Akoustik GUI.

And in the next update more better.

Buy Ivory and be happy ! (Ivory will never have real sympatic resonance and overtones - it's a close technology)

    Akoustik will !

    Best,

    Olivier

What good is "sympathetic resonance" if the notes play unevenly?

You can dial in the amount of resonance you want on other products and they sound just as good.

Sorry, but there was no excuse for NI releasing this product.

I have a real problem with companies that allow their clients to be the beta testers.

No amount of marketing can substitute for satisfied customers.

Mr. Bergman writes scripts for use with NI sample playback instruments, with particular emphasis on piano scripts. Right now these scripts are available free, as far as I can tell. Does Mr. Bergman plan to sell his future scripts to end-users? Is he hoping to interest NI in his wares?

Only time will tell. But it is obvious that anyone who had plans for such a business move in the future would have a vested interest in defending the mothership, no?

On the other hand, maybe he just likes the software?

    Isn't life interesting?

    :)

    Kind regards.

i don't speak about Ivory. (it's a virtual instrument with samples)

i speak about Piano Sampled library (Giga format, Halion , Kontakt 2 format)

(i could add : the Grand and the Grand 2 with "great Steinberg support" ...lol)

Go to the free user's Ivory forum (does such forum exist ?), to speak about Ivory.

As soon i will have Ivory i will make some nice comments like you.

    lol

    Regards,

Olivier and his friend Steinway's tuner

I have to say that I agree with both Olivier and Olan. Judging from the demos, I still think AP has the better sound. But how NI could dare to release it, I cannot fathom. It's unplayable by anyone who cares about sensitive expression. It DOES have potential. That's what my first wife said about me - before she left.
