    Hi Mike,

thank you for taking the time to try all this and write an extensive answer. indeed, we must say that the first assumption was wrong!

you are also not coming from Komplete 4 - another wrong assumption. which version for you show currently after going back to the pre-1.1.2 install?

I just installed the 1.1.2 update again after downloading it from our website and so far things look good on my machine. the only difference I can see so far is that you are using the default library location whereas I installed the library on another drive. okay, I tried the 1.1.2 installer a second time now using the default location like you did. I am also getting the correct library patches installed.

what would help me besides the version of your pre 1.1.2 install like mentioned below is the content of your Default folder (one NKM file and four NKI files). could you please zip those files and attach them to your post here?

Update: I also verified that all program files get installed corrrecly and that all critical registry settings are set here on the PC. Finally, I checked that library update patches do get installed even if you only select the stand-alone appication and not the VST/DXi/RTAS versions for install.

Update2: now I also checked the negative case - I you load old (= pre 1.1.1) patches with version 1.1.2, you get exactly the errors that you were decribing, "Cannot load default config" and no reaction when clicking on the piano icons. so it seems still to be related to the Default and Preset patches not being correctly updated on your machine (they should show a date of 23/11/2006 after running the 1.1.2 installer). I just cannot understand what prevents the installation of the new patches in certain cases!

    Markus

I'm not sure what you mean - do you mean what version number shows in the program's GUI? None right now, and there's no HELP menu on top to give me additional info. Only a FILE menu, which contains 2 options : Audio Setup and Quit.

I could be wrong here, but I don't think the program ever asked me where I wanted to install the library. Then again, since I like default installations, it's possible it asked me and I just accepted it. Please don't ask me to re-install this thing a 5th time. ;)

As did I, at this stage.

I actually have 8 files in this folder. Two NKM files and only one NKI file.

    AP_def.nkm
    kontakt_def.nki
    kontakt_def.nkm
    outputs_au.cfg
    outputs_dxi.cfg
    outputs_rtas.cfg (interesting, since I didn't select RTAS)
    outputs_sta.cfg
    outputs_vst.cfg

    Which one(s) do you want?

    Bingo.

    Well... FIND OUT! ;)

    Mike

I really wouldn't expect any type of answer for another couple months or so, if at all.

It's really appaling that I had indicated that the latest patch doesnt work, but it wasn't until you had indicated class action law suit that any body responded. Oh, BTW, the response was (paraphrased) Oh yeah, it doesnt work.

If you want someone to join your class action law suit, sign me up!

In all fairness, it IS the weekend. And he DID just admit in print before thousands of witnesses that the product doesn't work the way it was supposed to -- and hasn't for nearly a year.

I believe his heart is in the right place and we'll see this thing resolved quickly, now that I gave him everything he needed to narrow it down to where the problem truly lives.

I doubt a class action lawsuit (that's a term you always want to embolden, whenever possible ;)) will be necessary, but all the same, I recommend everyone here save this thread (in particular, the confessions made by N.I. in their last posting before they get edited or deleted) and if the company continues to fail to correct the problem or provide an adequate solution, then we can talk turkey, and be adequately armed for it.

    Hi Mike,

version number: I meant the one on the top left side of the About dialog. you get this dialog when clicking on the NI logo or the Akoustik Piano logo.

files in Default folder: okay, there are two Default folders ;-) I meant the one in Akoustik Piano Library next to Presets and Samples.

    Hi Mike,

okay, I just deinstalled the whole AP from my machine and am starting over from your version.

installing from the original AP box on PC into the default location on c:. selecting all default settings except RTAS (stand-alone, VST, DXi, and library), selecting only Boesendorfer 16 bit because of limited disk space on my c: drive...

looks like everything was installed okay - I now got your version and the files in Default with the same dates as you do. I ativate via Service Center since the registration tool does not work any longer. AP starts and loads Boesendorfer default and presets fine. closing app.

now installing the 1.1.2 installer. selecting everything but RTAS. app, VST and DXi version all updated to the new version. also the Default and Presets contents now shows 23/11/2006 as the date. starting the app tells me that it is not activated any longer - true we changed the activation system in the meantime. I click on Activate which again opens Service Center.

after second activation, I start AP and get no error and can load Boesendorfer default and presets fine.

so the question is - do you show 23/11/2006 as the date of the files in Default and Presets after running the AP 1.1.2 installer. and if you do not what did you do differently?

if it helps I can also attach the correct 1.1.2 patches to this thread. you can just copy and paste them. just keep in mind that they will not work with earlier versions of the application.

    Markus

My default files are currently dated pre-1.1.2 patch. I am not going to patch this software until I have somekind of assurance that it will continue to work after I do (I already installed the 1.1.2 patch four (4) times before giving up and sticking with 1.0.0).

If you give me patch files and clear instruction about where they go, I will agree to update my Akoustik Piano to 1.1.2 one last time.

If it works with the new patches you propose (I will report back here with the results), then I submit that you create a NEW sticky at the top of this forum with the patches + instructions on what to do with them.

I don't understand why you can't fix this via a new update, but as long as you have some way of getting it working, I'm sure most people here will be satisfied.

So post whatever files you think I need to make 1.1.2 work here, and tell me where to put them. Until then, I'm not crippling my software again. :S

EDIT : Oh, I can see that you DID attach them. Sorry, I'll try that as soon as I can and let you know if it worked.

    Hi all,

for those of you who installed 1.1.2 and currently get the problems that Mike and I described below, can you please try the following?

    * Close Akoustik Piano
    * Copy the files in Default_1.1.2.zip below into
    "Akoustik Piano Library/Default"
    * Copy the files in Presets_1.1.2.zip below into
    "Akoustik Piano Library/Presets"
    * Start Akoustik Piano

please let us know if this solves the problems for you.

if this works, I can certainly open a sticky thread with this workaround.

I can confirm that the steps described by Markus have corrected the problem.

    Congratulations, everyone :)

EDIT: Oops, I spoke too hastily. I got 1 warning when opening the Boesendorfer (doesn't seem very important, because the piano otherwise works fine).

    WARNING: 1 sample(s) not found:

    C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Akoustik Piano\Akoustik Piano Library\<<<AkoustikPiano_info.nkx>>>\Info\K2_AP_BO.tga

    Hi all,

great news! yes, you can ignore that warning. however, I attached another version of the fix that contains an NKX file with the missing TGA image. this file goes into the root of your library folder.

so to make it easier, I now put the file and the folders from below into the same zip file. you can copy the whole structure right into your Akoustik Piano Library folder.

note: the NKX file is only important if you are loading the AP patches into Kontakt, but you should get the complete library just like the installer was intended to update it.

if you see any clue on why the installer did not work for you, please let me know since I would love to fix this in our next installer. any differences from the installation process below? also curious if your are on Mac instead of PC or installed 1.1.2 on top of a different version, e.g. Komplete.

No real clue here, but really glad to get the files!

Akoustik for whatever reason did not load all the Bechstein samples, I re-instaled from the Komplete 5 disk, and it killed the other files too in the process, (though the audio files were installed). your fix here worked though.

    Sorry,

But this whole notion of moving all of the AP Problems to Audio Kontrol>Technical Issues is just plain wrong.

About as convoluded as a Komplete Install.

    Oh, Sorry..................., now I understand.

Good catch, mistake on my behalf. I thought I was moving them into Akoustik Piano/Technical Issues, but that forum doesn't even exist. Posts are back where they belong now.

I have a similar issue. I installed AP on my new macbook pro. Samples are already on an external firewire drive.
I get the "cant load default config" warning window. I click OK to move on and say where the directories are, but clicking OK doesn't close the warning window! Its just stays there and theres nothing i can do but force quit AP. Ive tried reinstalling, unsinstalling everything. but always the same problem. If ti woudl just close the damn window I could finish configuring the damn sample directory location!
I have put in a tech support request a few days ago and am of course still waiting for a reply......

I have done this, but still getting "can't load default config..."

Do I need to re or uninstall anything first and start over?

If so, how do I un-install?

    These folders are also in two places;

Under applications on my main drive, and also in the akoustik instruments library folder on the drive where I put the samples.

Same message; can't load default config.
