I have an Allen & Heath 4D and want to record my live sets. Setting up recording in Traktor Pro just seams to give me the alternative to choose one channel as input.

How do I set up Traktor Pro and 4D?

I am currently not using any cd players or turntables. Just the 4 decks in Traktor Pro.

I have complained about this bug several times since TSP & TP was introduced..both in private & public forums..and even emailing some members of the product team.

It is a very serious bug...more noticeable when using all 4 decks in TP/TSP.

You can fall back to Traktor 3.4 if recording is critical for you

    or:

Here are some workarounds with 3rd Party tools: (OS X)

    1. For sum (stereo) recording of all 4 decks try

    Audio Hijack Pro

    http://rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/

    2. For independent (separate) recording of all 4 decks try

    jackosx

    http://www.jackosx.com/

    There is a tutorial here

    http://www.djtechtools.com/?s=jackosx

    For PC/Windows:

    Try Virtual Audio Cable

    Thanks for great reply.

I have now also used the FX2 exit on the 4D and with phono cables joined it with the line in on channel 4 on the 4D. I have then used channel 4 as recording input in Traktor Pro and the result sounds fantastic including the 4D filters and LFOs. The negative side is that you can only mix with 3 channels.

Mixing with only 3 channels is unacceptable for me plus the "4D/FX2" bandage approach to recording sets is not entirely in the 'digital' domain -- not withstanding all the messy cabling.

Using 3rd party software like Audio Hijack yields better results when using all 4 TP/TSP decks IMHO.

Dunno how this bug keeps sneaking past the testers and quality assurance. NI/A&H ought to fix this bug.

Hope someone at NI is reading this thread :)

    another reason why a pair of 1D's, a xone:92 and an Audio8 beat a 4D.

    I am doing this without a problem with a xone:62 and 2 1d's...

    Nomad....

A user like me needs a simple setup like the Xone 4d (one unit) with only a couple of cables to haul around -- USB, power and an audio cable -- Which is what the 4D promises.

I have the Xone 3D, A8DJ, (other few sound cards) too.

I am hoping that these bugs will be behind us someday.

Sound Quality of 4D? & Other Bugs?

Kris, I hope you can help me with my dilemma, you seem to have experienced a few different setups.

I need to buy midi controller for Traktor.

I bought a Korg Zero4 in September, and I'm not very happy with it. I feel it is lacking the sound quality I had with my DJM600 and Stanton Final Scratch soundcard. I also bought two EKS XP5 which I have never used on account of them feeling like toys.

I have just upgraded to Traktor Pro, and I want to utilize its effects and on some occasions four decks. Most of the time I play mobile gigs and only chart music ( it has destroyed what musical integrity I ever had, but it is a decent way to fund university and keep abreast of having good equipment). I am also in the process of returning an EKS Otus which I feel was over priced and not quite what I was looking for.

So I am really curious to know if the 4d is worth it. I love the idea of a single pre-made flightcase and only one usb cable; but I have read some posts on the forum to suggest that two 1d's and a separate soundcard yield better sound quality.

Are you happy with the sound quality from the 4D, and I see above you hope for a day when all bugs will be fixed. Are there many issues with 4D & TP other than the recording issue above?

This is a routing problem.. and there is a solution for this..

To record your Mixer output (one channel stereo sum)

Make sure the top red switch of channel 4 is not pressed: this is the MIX Channel selection.
This will set the mix output to Soundcard input 4.
Then set the recording in the Traktor Prefs to External and select channel D.

    Good luck.

BTW I love my 4D.. No problems using it on 44.1kHz, 96K needs new driver IMHO.

    aidoDel..

Marc is right. The 4D is good enough for most things. Some of us do push the envelope at times. Your mobile gig should be fine if playing out with all of Traktor's 4 decks is not a high priority at this point.

Also, most things above 44.1kHz seem to have some issues.

Vista seems to have some problems when using it with the 4D and Traktor Pro. XP is probably the OS of choice if you are on a PC.

    Kris..
