When is this 2.1 gonna see the light of day? I have a gig on May 1st and was hoping to use the INCLUDED MIDI SYNC feature that is SURE to show up.

    I SURE hope so.

    :)

Sorry, Rob, I don't have an answer for ya. I have no ideas as to what is going on over at NI as far as an update for TS2. But I will try to find out.

Dream on robtronik...... NI doesn't even participate in this forum.... it wouldn't be so bad if they were producing releases... I'm really dissapointed.... I would even feel better if they promise some stuff and miss delivery dates... at least you could get the feeling that they are trying.

The only thing I use Traktor for is creating loops in remixes. Yea call me a pessimist, I'm just tired of "no progress".

    @robtronik
considering the way the TRAKTOR releases went till now,
i doubt the next release will make you happy.
Since TRAKTOR ist definitely still in beta stage and
in no way software for professional DJs,
you shouldn't use it on stage.

    Note:
i would love to pay over 1k $s for a professional software for professional users, which _
    - runs rock solid (even for weeks),
    - is easy to use even by beginners (productivity!),
    - is fast and can handle "professional use" (ever tried to use it with a playlist >10.000 songs)
    - is configurable (let me assign shortcuts),
    - flexible (ever heard of native tft screen resulution? widescreen?)
    - has all the features i need and
    - introduces new features only in beta cycles till they work (rock!) stable,

releasing buggy "pro" software can kill the products reputation.
c'mon removing tooltips coz of pirates is just silly and "shareware-like"
releasing buggy "pro" software can kill the products reputation.
    PS
Don't tell me 10k songs are too much, it's like "who needs more than XX Mb, GB, TB of data, 640kb are enough for ever ;-). it's not as if we need 10k songs for a gig but professional software should ba able to handle huge playlists without a hassle.

What do you mean by "shortcuts"? Keyboard shortcuts? Those are possible. Or are you referring to multistep macros (like, "Load next song, go to cue point, and synch")? I can deal without macros, though they would be nice. Definitely not necessary.

    Well I have faith!

I'm not feeling that negative about NI efforts. I think the software is definitely decent. I'm willing to work with the defects because there are workarounds - nothing that is a showstopper in my experience.

I really am just hoping for some sort of MIDI clock sync, either in or out - whatever. I have some external groovebox gear that I want to run with Traktor to spice up the performance, and having one less thing to worry about with regard to sync is kind of a holy grail for me.

Ideally - when the mac Powerbook gets powerful enough - I want to run Ableton's Live, Traktor 2.0, an audio recording application to record my sets while they happen (i.e. SparkME) - all at the same time.

Right now I can run Traktor 2.0 and SparkME without problems on my G4 12" Powerbook (867 mghz) - but if I start up Live the computer redraws get choppy and the processor chugs. At this point, I wanted to use Live to provide the MIDI clock signal to sync up my external gear to it, but the computer doesn't run as smooth (that makes me nervous in a live performance situation). I use the firewire audio interface by MOTU - the 828, which allows 8 outputs (4 for traktor, 2 for Live, used) and I use two of the inputs from the DJ mixer to record in - getting my sets recorded while they happen. Very cool - and even more cool is being able to burn them to disc for peeps after I'm done so they can take my performance home with them THAT NIGHT.

    Rad.

SO to rectify this problem - if Traktor 2.1 offers MIDI Beat sync OUT, it would solve my immediate issue of overloading my current system....I'm sure the Powerbook 17" could run my ideal set up, but then I lose the small and portable nature of my rig that I have set up now.

    :)

17" is way too big. I can't wait until the 12" has the power of the 17"...then we'd be talkin'!

    :)

laokoon - i think that you shoud expeirience with some other programs and support forums before you take such agressive approach towards NI.

I use Traktor for LIVE gigs - WEDDINGS and clubs and i have no reason to be alarmed - i know what to beware of and i am glad to have all the capabilities of Traktor even if they DO need to be improoved.

From my years of expirience with computers build for music creation and for live music preformances, i have learned that MOST of the stability problems are not caused by the software but by the hardware.

A lot of ppl think they can cut costs and buy CHEAP computer, install pro software on it and save hundreds or thousends of $.

Traktor is VERY stable if you use it on stable MACHINE that is built SPECIFICALLY for live music use (that will include checking suitable chipset, HD data transfer rates, expensive sound card, strong and stable display card etc.).

Sure - i would like to know all the features of all the softwares i use without taking the effort of learning them but there is no such thing and belive me, Traktor is very easy to learn and use.

Take some time to play with it and i'm certain you'll love it.

From MagicFinger's post above: "Traktor is VERY stable if you use it on stable MACHINE that is built SPECIFICALLY for live music use
...A lot of ppl think they can cut costs and buy CHEAP computer, install pro software on it and save hundreds or thousends of $.
    "

Sounds to me like you're saying Traktor will work for those who can afford top-of-the line equipment.

I specifically purchased my hardware to run Traktor, but I'm nowhere near being able to afford a machine "SPECIFICALLY for live music use". Is there such a thing?

I purchased my equipment based NOT on Traktor's "minimum" requirements but on their "RECOMMENDED" stats. My laptop is setup dedicated to Traktor and I still have "sticky buttons", a self-altering Track Collection, the preview player triggers when I click on scroll bars, and jittery beat detection even after using SET buttons and beat grids. ( and I STILL love Traktor, even if these problems crop up on both my laptop and my G4 tower at home).

If Traktor's only supposed to work reliably on hardware "SPECIFICALLY for live music use" then NI shouldn't be advising which equipment meets "minimum" or "recommended" requirements to run Traktor. Doing so would shut out people who ALREADY have purchased equipment and NI would have to tell those with money to spend on a whim EXACTLY what to buy as if Traktor was the only thing the consumer would use his/her computer for. If they felt that hardware was to blame for Traktor's instability, I think they would either provide a monster list of hardware un-proven for stability with Traktor or they would list a miniscule collection of hardware that performed without a hitch and they would have to tell us that such a tiny list would be our only options to run Traktor on.

Blaming bugs on hardware is pretty irresponsible. I've done software testing and I know it's frustrating to reproduce an obscure bug, let alone to have to go back and prove it's fixed. But when I've contacted NI's support people with a problem, they don't blame problems on my hardware. They've been honest in letting me know if they haven't reproduced a bug successfully yet ( even when others post to describe experiences with the same bug), and they ask me for more details if I can provide them.

If Traktor is supposed to work on hardware fitting their minimum OR recommended stats, then that's all it comes down to = it's supposed to work!

--Magic Finger, I'm glad to hear Traktor is working for you! I truly am! But to imply that anyone experiencing instability is to blame because they're too "CHEAP" to afford YOUR equipment --- I'll just stop myself now before I post something I'll regret. Or you can upgrade me to a Powerbook if you prefer. ;)

    Yupa

I did not said Traktor is error free.
I said that it will be wize to learn the bugs and be prepared for them - no reason not to trust it for LIVE shows.

Yes, i agree that NI should publish a list of "known bugs" and a list of hardware that works better than other with Traktor.
Also, i don't think that NI has enough TECHNICAL guidance at the site : "Windows XP, Pentium III 700 MHz, 256 MB RAM, multi-channel soundcard (minimum 4 mono or 2 stereo outputs) " is not a decent specs list for music computer.

Minimum Requirements ment to tell you that if you don't meet the minimum, you won't be able to use it and it is obvious that if you meet the minimum only, you will get reduced preformance.

No, i don't blame the bugs on hardware only but i do think that despite the list of problems you have mentioned, Traktor IS stable comparing to other softwares around.

As you probably know, any software has bugs and all i'm saying is that in a realtive manner, Traktor is VERY stable and it does work.

Yes, i do think that if your intention is to do Professional setup then you will have to invest a lot of $ in hardware to be relaxed on your gigs.

Buttom line - if you buy a privet car to pull furnitures then don't expect it to drive flawlessly - you should get a truck.
    ;)

That doesn't mean the truck wount have problems but it will be suitable for the job you are trying to to.

    :D

    I've heard it all now.

I think NI needs technical guidance.

When I need to fade some songs (jazz comes to mind) into each other (using the volume faders and not the crossfader :p ) and my audience doesn't care if the music sometimes stops for about 5 minutes, I am not alarmed either using T2.
