Am I misunderstanding level lamps?

    My understanding of the module reference on level lamps is that if I put one in continuous mode and set min to 0 and max to 1 then the brightness of the lamp should vary from off (0.0) up to full on (1.0) with shades in between representing the signal level from 0.1 to 1.0.

    Am I wrong? Because mine don't seem to be doing that. They seem to stay resolutely switched off no matter the signal level.

    I want to represent the level of an envelope in a simple form and though a lamp that went from bright to dim/off would be a good way of doing so.

    RGB lamp seems to work somewhat for this purpose.

    also, the min/max values of the level lamp seem to refer to dB. maybe a range of -300 to -6 instead of the default -20 to 20. works for me after that.

    That's what I was missing. It's odd because it takes it's value in linear amplitude.

    Unfortunately, in practice, it's hard to distinguish the level. If I use -300/-6 then it's pretty much the same brightness (to my eyes) from 0.5 to 1.0. If I use -300/0 then there's very little to distinguish from 0.0 to 0.5.

    I'd be interested to know what you had in mind. Some kind of lvl->colour calculation?

    i get results out of a RGB lamp just running an envelope directly into, say, the 'R' input. it's not much better than the level lamps though, honestly.

    also probably running down to -300 isn't necessary, maybe try -100 or something instead.

    normal is [-60:10]
    -60 = silence

    Ah thanks guys. Yeah I'm carrying the -300 over from another context (oscillator P value) by accident.
