    Hey Everyone,

I'm just curious...is the amp noise/hum in GR 5 an artifact from sampling the original hardware or is it a feature added in to make it sound more like "the real thing"?

Problem is, when I'm just practicing or experimenting with different components and setups, I'm usually using headphones. And even though the "gate" feature works great in silence, once you get going, there's always that buzz in the back of everything you play. And it gets more and more noticeable as you get into the higher gain setups.

It's not really a problem in live playback, but I find it really REALLY irritating through the phones. Makes me not want to use it.

I love the options with GR 5, but it would be a lot more fun to be able to just play around with pure tones and hear them clean and not be tethered to old technology. It's admirable the detail you've gone to in order to faithfully reproduce various amps, but really, control over noise is a big part of why I bought GR in the first place.

Thanks in advance for any wisdom.

You're kidding right? It's from your guitar. Mute the input on your DAW or GR itself, if it was the software you'd still hear noise.

The solution is to use humbucking pickups, the shortest possible and high-quality guitar cable, your guitar's volume control between playing and only as much gain as needed.

Turn off all the lights around you (or at least step away or out from under them), and step away from any other sources of electromagnetic radiation (computers, monitors, lamps, transformers, power lines, high-power LEDs, cell phones, televisions, air conditioners, refrigerators etc.).

High frequency buzzing indicates room lighting, LED or monitor interference. Luminescent tubes ('neon lighting'), halogenic spotlights and old CRT monitors are especially bad.
