Since there is no switch, would this be useful?

Is it okay to unplug the Maschine controller while it's on or in Standby mode?

As there is no switch, I'd say that unplugging it while on is not an issue and is the way to actually turn it off.

It is not a USB device that has memory like that of a USB stick, iPod, or external harddrive that you should correctly disconnect before unplugging, so I don't think there is any danger.

I have done it numerous times to no effect and due to the "wobbly" nature of the socket, it has actually been nudged out a couple of times during operation. Plugging it in again just resumed function without a problem.

However, if the shortcut closed the software (and opened it when closed), that would be useful. Perhaps not necessary, but useful.

I seek official confirmation of those assumptions.

Have you e-mailed technical support about it? They would be able to give you an official answer.

So you guys are saying that it's a problem for you to have Maschine in idle mode when not in use?

I would rather it be idle and ready to come up when I need it than for it to be switched. There is nothing like the headaches of DEVICE NOT FOUND type messages because a piece of hardware didn't initialize properly or at all.
Be careful what you ask for.
As it stands now I don't have to unplug my Maschine for any reason but what you are asking for could and more than likely would lead to having to unplug it or reboot my computer from time to time just to get it to initialize.

    No thanks.

What evidence do you have of this?

It's the very reason why Maschine can run without the controller attached.
To put in under software switch control would require that it knows it's there or has some form of constant communication.
Meaning it becomes like most USB devices and has to initialize or disconnect.
Thus giving the potential for improper initialization.

^^^ What he said. And it is perfectly safe to disconect it for the same reason. Theres no reason to turn it off and there is no better way of going about how NI have done this short of having it powered by a wall wart.

    That's not really evidence.

I'm honestly curious about the subject.

Let's get deeper into it. :)

This isn't a court of law so I could care less and move on from this childish banter.

Perhaps the screens could turn off after a short time, and then they could wake up again when a button is pressed or software is connected? The current arrangement does seem like a waste of energy and could shorten the life of the screens etc.
