If you assemble your own computers that'll work, lol, my iMac from 2008 can't be customized and can't even run Civilisation V. Logic 7.2 also runs much better then Logic 9. I can't afford a Mac Pro that can be customized (I mean, I would only replace my system for something with 8 cores, 16GB RAM, SSD etc). And how about all the koresounds for 32bit plug-ins. If NI makes Kore 64bit I can take Kore to a new system but not my whole library. It does go fast... For me this looks like the future: http://www.vsl.co.at/en/65/71/1988/1677.vsl That way I could control Kore on a newer system while running Kore on a frozen system I would treat Kore like external hardware. And then a third computer for another Kore and 32bit stuff, lol.
Yeah, my current MacBook (which is my workhorse - loaded with 8GB RAM and a 750GB drive) will be the frozen Kore system whenever I can afford a big upgrade
Like all of you, I was so frustrated when NI announced the Kore discontinuation, as I've just bought it and I was seeing a bright future for this gear in my setup! I was really surprised by this decision, because it seemed a flagship for NI (okay I'll stop here, we've all heard enough about that)... I'm glad someone is talking about Vienna Ensemble Pro, because this is the solution I found too... I was just waiting for the version 5 to come out and here it is, so I'll give it a try! The only problem could be the Kore controller itself, as the drivers may lost compatibility with future computers... But the Kore player plugin should work fine for a while and VEP is now supporting full plugin automation, so I guess I will be able to, at least, do some morphing again in my DAW with another MIDI controller. What is interesting with VEP is that you can link multiple computers together, without expensive external audio card on all the slave computers... Only Ethernet cables and a gigabit hub and you're ready to go! The only limit is the licences given with the software, and there is 3, so it should be more than enough for most people (maximum 3 slave computers and one master computer, as only the slave require a licence). This way, if you're really afraid that Kore will be incompatible with your computer, DAW or OS updates, you can freeze one slave computer to dedicate it to kore and continue to benefit from all the updates on your other computer (master machine)... You could even combine Mac and PC over the same network. But as VEP is new and compatible with all the newest softwares and computers out there, I don't see the point in freezing any computer... Kore should continue to work in VEP for a long time... I can live with not being able to use my brand new hardware controller (it could make a good bookshelf?), but what is more important for me is being able to use the Kore player, mostly it's morphing features, being able to use all the patches I made in Kore and most importantly: not losing the precious time I've put in rating most of my 10 000 (and more) kore sounds! And at the same time, it gives my computer the 64 bit power that my DAW is not offering (protools is only 32 bits), so I now have full access to my RAM! It should also resolve a lot of plugin compatibility problems in my DAW, as VEP supports all VSTs! No more compatibility headaches! This piece of software is really, really worth the look if you don't know it yet! It is a BIG problem solver for me, so I hope it will help you too! And if Kore finally goes 64 bits this setup will work like a charm!
Kore 2 and VEP working fine Hi! I finally received Vienna ensemble pro and tested it with Kore and it's working fine! ) The Kore 2 controller works within VEP and I've been able to record automation in Pro tools (morphing automation)... What a relief! At first VEP did not seem to recognize the hardware controller, but I restarted and it finally detected it... So, to sum it up: - I am using a 27 inch iMac mid 2011 (core i7 3.4 Ghz, quad core, 16GB RAM), running Lion (10.7.2) with Pro tools 9.0.5 and Vienna ensemble pro (ver. 5). It's a pretty up to date setup and it's all compatible -Kore 2 works fine in standalone mode (hardware and software) -Kore 2 works within protools when used with Vienna ensemble pro 5 and plugin automation is possible, even when using the kore hardware. Kore is known to cause issues within protools, so I guess it's better to keep it out of your DAW with VEP... I think at least with these kind of technical specs I should be able to use Kore for a little while... And, like I said before, when Kore will finally be 64 bits (let's hope NI will do it soon, as promised) it should even work better within VEP... Let's go back to what's really important: make some music! ) Peace --- Hahaha I just saw the Kore 2.1.4 update in my download center and what do I see? 64 bit support! merry Christmas
Awesome, I'm waiting for my elicenser so I can start working with VEP 5 too So, did it work to run 32bit Kore in 64bit PT using VEP5 as a bridge?
Yes it worked to run 32 bits kore on pro tools (pro tools is 32 bits, not yet 64 bits, as it should be included in PT11). I was using both the 32 and 64 bits server in one session, with 16 instances of 64 bits plugins and 8 instances of 32 bits plugins (including kore) in VEP... I managed to record in all 24 midi tracks controlling VEP at the same time and everything went smootly! And I used several instances of my most resource-hungry plugins (East west Play libraries)... I did not try to push the system to it's limit, so I don't know how far I could go (how many tracks per session), but for now I like what I see! Before VEP I was struggling to use almost only 3 instances of my East-west play plugin and it always gave me system errors and crashes... VEP is what I was waiting for to finally have a stable environment (using a lot of virtual instruments)... Thanks Vienna! I Hope it helps you too!
Sounds like a breeze, do you have other pc's hooked up? Haven't found out yet if I need a key for that. So far I found out that I can't save stuff in VEP as a koresound (I'm a creature of habit). The VST crashed Kore and the AU froze it and I don't know if a koresound can even load the server, I guess not. I later found out that I can download a seperate Vienna Instruments Player (the orchestra worked without it in Vienna Ensemble) so I can use the orchestra outside of VEP. Now I've got my Epic Orchestra saved as koresounds. Very happy with the Oboe d'Amore and Cornet, looking forward to getting the special edition bundle.
You need a key for where the VEPro server is, if you are just referencing a server from a daw on another computer, you dont need a key for the daw computer.
Yes I tried to run the same session in Pro tools on my older macbook pro (late 2008, 2.53 Ghz, 4GB RAM) and all the plugins on my iMac... It worked just as well as running the same setup on one machine... I used a gigabit Hub and two cat 6 ethernet cables. I liked the idea of having my pro tools session opened on my laptop with the edit window on the monitor connected to it and the mix window opened on the laptop screen and the virtual instruments accessible on another computer to play around with the plugins. All the main windows opened and accessible easily... But for now I prefer to run VEP and Pro tools on the same computer. If my computer ever reach it's limit I might try to separate my DAW and my Virtual instruments, but as long as I can run them both on the same computer I will do so because I think it's much simple that way (no back and forth between computers)...
Kien, Sorry but I never received any such offer via newsletter. This is the first I have heard of the discontinuance of Kore. I have been busy making music with Komplete 7 and Kore 2 and haven't been on the forum for several months. What is the status of this offer for Kore users to purchase a crossgrade to Mashine on the online store? Will I be able to run Kore and Mashine at the same time? Will I lose my patches from previous soundpack purchases if I upgrade to Komplete 8 I was preparing to purchase Mashine and upgrade to Komplete 8 Ultimate before 12/31. Thank you for your attention and prompt attention to these questions David
Ooooh that sounds like a great setup. A touch screen for a mixer would be great but you're right, a laptop screen is perfect for that. --- Crossgrade and Komplete Ultimate offers last til 12/31 so you'll be saving money if you have it right now You won't lose patches or soundpacks. Komplete 7/Kore 2 will only work together if you don't do a clean install of Komplete 8. And you can run Maschine and Kore together, you can even run Maschine in Kore.
THIS IS EXACTLY what is needed! I'm with you..Komplete 8 Ultimate..Kore 2 hardware.. NO need for all the extra stuff Maschine does at this point.. SIGH.
Crossgrade available for MK2? I know NI gave an upgrade path for former KORE users to get into Mashine. Can this still be applied for the newer controller. I figure since I owned Maschine when they offered this; I had no possible scenario to benefit from buying a product twice and and being stuck with KORE after ti being discontinued right after I bought it.
I'm actually surprised anyone that was DOUBLY stung by NI (1. getting rid of kore at short notice 2..forcing users to buy packs within 4 weeks) would want to give them any more money? I really hope they got a thank you card from all the companies that are getting my money, like fab filter , d16 and more... who have know how to treat customers instead of pulling the rug from under them. the one thing I used to think about german based companies were.. "they were on point" can't say that for NI or ableton. hopefully lack of sales will make them realise their actions were off key.
f0g: I couldn't agree more. I still smart when I think of the lost opportunity that Kore represents. Not to mention all the wasted work put in by all the serious users. NI behaved very badly (though there were a few acts of individual kindness from Tjhomas and Keir). I know that people like us are regarded as 'whiners' by the Maschine kiddies (most of whom have not the first incling of what Kore is about) but I think that ANYONE with the intelligence to use it would have seen the value of Kore. It's just a shame that NI's owners didn't fit into that category.
Idiotic or not, I've now spent a small fortune on hardware to replace my, largely NI, software-based setup. There's even a chance that NI might get thank you cards from Access, Akai, Waldorf, Dave Smith, Elektron and Korg due to me; not to mention my electricity provider. Oddly, Kore is the one piece of kit I neither can, not want to, replace.
