The Kore database and caches (and plug-in settings) and other stuff in that folder can all be deleted and they will get rebuilt. I do this any time I want to start over after messing things up (something I do with great frequency because I'm so stupid).

You will lose colors and ratings so put them in comments.

I'd be upset too if my Kore suddenly up'd and vanished. Fortunately for me it's still on my PC and makes music the same way it did before NI announced it would be discontinued. (Except it has quite a few new soundpacks now.)

Just teasing, but it is important to keep in mind. Kore didn't become useless because it got discontinued. Eventually, lack of support may make it unable to keep up with moving technology. Until then, there's nothing to complain about, it's still an amazing music production tool.

    Ah, but the reliability under new operating systems, which come out at a similiar rate, is in question;

the operating systems are (I'm a Mac-ie, my bad) bowing to economic pressure; NI is acting like nothing's changed; I'm simply not able to make that work anymore. . .

Not a stab at NI, simply a statement of fact; hell, I might not even be the market they are after, which is also cool. . .

But the simple fact of that matter is that after a decade and a half of quasi-baked promises, I'm now in that boat. . . I felt it was worth it to inform my vendors. . .

Thats a matter of opinion, as the current Komplete 7 instruments are changing over to use the new format in the next scheduled update, people will find they can no longer create sounds from Absynth, FM8, Massive and Reaktor in ksd format and load them directly into Kore - pretty immediate effect to my thinking, and as most users apply updates/bug fixes without really thinking much about it they may lose the Kore compatibility without realising it.

    ----

And as the next updates are also including Lion support, it wont be possible to have Lion compatible K7 instruments and Kore compatibility - I think its a very serious issue

That's a concern certainly (I've commented on it in other threads) but that doesn't necessarily mean Kore won't be able to read and import patches made with them - and now it becomes clear I think why the timescale for the compatibility Kore update was set for the autumn (initially I thought that didn't make sense).

If Kore is capable of reading them then it also follows that Kore is being updated to support the Maschine format - Absolutely fantastic if true - But from all I've read on the intention for Kore - extremely unlikely

    ----------
    Its a very complicated situation.

It may be possible that the Kore engines in their final format, include the import facility, but that is done on startup or on a patch by patch basis and in that situation, unless there were 2 copies of each patch - one in ksd format - the other in maschine format, it wouldn't work - you would need 1 version so that it appeared in the Kore browser and another that loaded into the engine in Kore :) and - as the latest versions of K7 instruments only support the Maschine format, after the next update, sounds created in the K7 instruments will not be visible in the Kore browser

We need some very clear information from NI on this so that we can manage the whole process, one way or another.

No that doesn't follow. Just that it may still be able to import them as long as they are still following certain standards (in the same way that it can read Reaktor snapshots currently even though they are not in ksd format). I'm just saying there are ways of ensuring the updates don't break compatibility and I would hope that is what NI are working on and certainly what we should be lobbying them to ensure happens in the next update.

There are most certainly ways to ensure the updates don't break compatibility. As it stands, i think compatibility is being broken - Thats why I'm asking NI for assurance that K7 will remain Kore compatible for the lifetime of K7 - one way or another, without sacrificing the bug fixes or lion compatibilty.

I think when it is all said and done with the updates they should put all kore 2 and komplete 7 updates in there own special little area and make sure that if we have to do a reinstall or something that all the updates they put there are compatible to the furthest updates that work together.

You know just a special kore 2 komplete 7 update package.

Possibly I'm misreading something, but can you clarify what you mean here?

According to the email from NI:

Surely that means it will be possible to have Lion compatible K7 instruments and Kore compatibility?

Not unreasonable for you to come to that conclusion. However, at the present time, the release log for each affected K7 instrument ties bug fixes, lion support and changeover to maschine format in the 1 single release meaning you can't have 1 without the other. To allow Kore compatibility with bug fixes and lion support, the change to maschine format would need to be parked off into another release.

This issue has been around for a while now, a simple clarification from NI of "kb123 you are wrong in this and here is why ....." would clear the issue up instantly :)

question:Does anyone know if will we be seeing North India in Komplete 8? I know NI probably won't say but it sure would be good to know stuff like that as we see Kore disappear. I would like to make the most informed decision when using vouchers. Personally I don't see why you guys don't let us download whatever we want as I assume many if not all of these will just disappear after you take them down, with the exception of libraries like N India or True Strike. This is all conjecture based on the fact that you did take Acoustic Refractions and make it part of Komplete 7.

Royalties, legal permissions, financial deals - these tend to make free things very expensive.

No one, probably not even NI, knows what's in Komplete 8 at this stage.

most of the samples of North India were put into Kontakt 4 so I don't expect an extra soundpack in Komplete. Maybe Kontakt 4.5 will have more interesting nki's like North India has.

Kore soundpack voucher from Electronic Experience

If I purchase Electronic Experience can I use the Kore Voucher since I do own the full version of Kore 2?
    Thanks, B

If I can't import KSDs into Maschine, why would I want to "Crossgrade"...it is just huge and ugly to boot and appears total overkill for my needs.

I use Kore2 as a librarian tool layering NI sounds, and quick access to tweaking sounds while playing and recording...(Kore performances and library browsing is the reason I bought into NI a long time ago and now own Kontakt 4-7, loads of sound packs etc etc)

Am I missing something here or is it a really sad day for all that was good about Kore?

With KSD import and a librarian too as good as Kore, I might be pushed (just for up to dateness and not being obsolete to the point of no return - been there before...) but without those two things...mehhhh. Using Kore within Maschine seems like a poor substitute of a solution too?

I hope I am wrong about Maschine...and there was me hoping the Kore2 discontinuation was the announcement of Kore3! sigh. sad times

Maschine will not support .ksd and never will. And it's been a sad month and a half to be exact...
