Have you tried plugging in a power adapter to the controller? Have you tried using a standard iPad lightning cable with it?

Yeah I have a 12v 1600ma dc connected and the lighting cable connected to the camera adapter. I think the problem is I am using the usb b connected I use to attach the controller to my desktop I presume the iPad Slot uses lower power.

No ! .. do not use the S2 usb port at all with the ipad ..and do not use any camara adapter .. and i recommend not to test any hub to overcome the power issue ;) .. reason (I do not own the S2mk3, only the older mk2 models .. so can assume only): same as the old S2 which needed a dedicated cable (without camera adapter) the new S2 mk3 offers a dedicated ios port. The ios port charges iPad and routes the HID messages between S2 and iOS TDJ2. The USB via CA does not, so it's something totally different ;) maybe a S2mk3 user can confirm.

(more complex, in case interested: S2/S4 controller do not offer native midi protocoll, so even a hub or camera adapter would not allow to communicate with any midi apps on ios via usb)

You mean the 'old NI usb to ligthning cable' .. connected to S2mk3 usb , not using the ios port ?? Interesting :)
maybe also an option (similar i connect my old S4)

Good ! Got it .. this is best anyhow:thumbsup:, thats what i meant with first post: always use ios port adapter, not the usb port (with any camera adapter).

You gave me other idea only .. test my old NI cable and use the s2 usb, maybe works too with TDJ2 and charges. But forget this ! Your approch is best anyhow and the official one :) this one the 'old' mk2 user use to connect directly to orange usb port: https://www.native-instruments.com/...ies/pricing-usb-lightning-cable-for-z1-s2-s4/ .. but as said, maybe a hack .. better you use ios port ! :)

cool ;):thumbsup::thumbsup: fingers crossed for the release. It just occurred to me that when the tdj app release the s2 becomes a stand alone unit does it not.

I am mad about meanwhile ... so the S4mk2, S2mk2 user got lost (payed for controller which are not longer work with TDJ2), a nice TDJ2 but far less features than TDJ... it happend what i predicted in last post here: https://www.native-instruments.com/...s-grid-into-txt-csv-xls-dj-player-pro.259384/.. so i hope at least some happy TDJ user followed my guide in link and made a backup days ago :( Hint: I do not assume that TD2 overwrites your TDJ1 (I will not test it ; ) .. so for the user which have TDJ1 already installed: make a backup (see link above) .. because on a new ipad install (or restore) the TDJ1 will be removed from your iPad forever !!

S2mk3 user: dont get me wrong .. i am happy for you that you can use your S2 now with an Traktor iOS app, enjoy ! ;)

First problem I’m having. Isn’t the iPad supposed to power the S2 MK3? My controller isn’t powering up when connected.

I thought this was the whole point, plug and play mobile DJ. Yes the option to plug power into the S2 to charge the iPad is nice but was expecting to be able to use it without power for a couple of hours running off the iPad. There is also no option to use the iPad speakers, which would have been nice if you wanted to practice DJ’ing on your sofa with just your S2 + iPad.

I can be more mobile using my MacBook Pro/Air + TP3, not much point using the iPad if it’s not mobile.

Alex have you plugged the controller into a 12v dc adapter and the ipad into a lightning port.

That’s my point. I didn’t think you’d need a 12v dc adapter, I thought the S2 would power up from the iPad but it doesn’t. I guess I misunderstood the point of the iPad app, I though it was so you could use the controller + iPad as a mobile DJ setup. If you can’t I don’t really get why they’ve bothered making it. You can be more portable with a MacBook/Laptop and TP3. Maybe there’s people out there without laptops I guess. Maybe this is for them.

well i think you need an adapter and a hub, you need to power the ipad as the ipad does not have enough power to power the unit.

I think this will be an issue for NI. The S2 MK3 is advertised as being built for Traktor DJ 2 so many people will buy it to use with their iPad. However, the S2 doesn’t ship with a power adapter so you can’t use it out of the box with the iPad app. This will have a lot of people left scratching their heads as to why it’s not powering up from the iPad. The app description says it’s “plug and play”, which, according to the dictionary definition, means “the connection of peripherals to personal computers, whereby a device only needs to be connected to a computer in order to be configured to work perfectly.” To have to use a power adapter or powered USB hub doesn’t really fall under this.
