That's exactly the point. It's not worth 600 euros and I've already paid for half the product. I actually couldn't care less, I have no plans to buy one either way, but I can see people's frustrations when all they want to do is upgrade the controller. To be honest is makes far more sense for NI to sell separately - imo the controller isn't even worth 300 euros but plenty of people would cough up.

Of course this is open to debate; plenty of people see it the way I'm explaining it and, for some odd reason I can't begin to understand, some people see it the way you do (although, genuinely without wishing to be rude because you do seem like a nice guy, you have always struck me as being an NI fanboy).

NO YOU HAVEN'T PAID FOR HALF THE PRODUCT - you paid for a software and hardware version of a product.... Not the software and hardware version of every other incarnation of that product. lets not forget how much free stuff has come along with Maschine in the last 3.5 years.

And I am not a fanboy of any company and honestly dislike the term as reckon it sounds more than a bit gay and insulting but hey ho i will leave that with you

i do however admit that i really like NI gear (i own a fair bit of it and have been a customer since about 99) so i tend to support them and their vision on a lot of things as I feel they make decent gear and are generally better to customers than other software dev's, i do however also like a lot of other gear that i own and more often than not also support their views (much to my dismay i have been paying for updates to Cubase for over 10 years however!).

I tend to understand when any company issue a statement informing customers of what is what, hence why i say i dont see the point in debating and neither do a lot of others, it's a waste of time - i am just very quiet at work at the minute so have the option to get iinvolved - it is a waste of my time but i have time to waste so it's ok i suppose.

it's like this isn't it - the field always has 2 sides and a middle - those that will, those that won't , and those that spend their time doing neither..... if you personally won't upgrade or buy the controller as an add on (that's all it is currently but may be subject to change further down the line is my guess) then why waste your time discussing why they won't do it?

for the record if i wanted additional controllers i would be looking @ other manufacturers that focus on controllers - i certainly would not consider the Mk2 as an option unless i wasn't a customer already - that is what they are saying to people - i dont understand why its so difficult to grasp, understand and let go of.

I think that's the point isn't it? People that use that term are trying to be insulting... ;)

lol...what? I have paid for the software. If the Mk2 came with completely new 2.0 software, unavailable for 1.8 license owners, then you would be entirely correct. However, that is not the case.

Like I said, I never meant to offend but I have definitely noticed you spring to the defence of NI whenever they come under any kind of criticism, no matter how measured and reasoned that criticism may be. Almost to the point of being a company shill.

This is a forum. NI have made a statement of intent but that doesn't mean myself and others can't discuss or challenge the validity of that decision in a civilised way and, hopefully, maybe even persuade them to overturn it.

Which side of the fence? I told you I didn't mean to offend - I'm sorry if it did though.

wonkey i can say that all day, knowing full well what i am doing - it's fine though whatever.

i wasn't saying people shouldn't discuss it - more so that there is no point - their stance is pretty clear.

maybe, just maybe, the plan for the mk2 controller is bigger than what we see right now so there is good reason not to offer a cheap offer to crossgrade - perhaps new software will be for mk2 owners only, perhaps - how would you feel about that?

I think I would eventually have bought the MKII, not right away due to the fact that i have to re:buy (license) the software _again_ . The decision is not getting easier in the light of the new PUSH controller, if it has a more feature rich step sequencer then that is where my MKII money goes..

i think i am correct in saying there was no cross-grade for Traktor owners who wanted to buy F1 so the lack of cross-grade to MK2 seems to be following company policy.

i am not saying that this is a good policy, and just saying that it seems to be the current company policy.

it will be interesting to see if APC 40 owners get any deal if they want to buy Push.

The world is pretty damn expensive at the minute, not just for consumers.

well i dare say NI already mulled this over months ago. I suspect at the price point of the Maschine it probably didnt make sense to offer mk1 users a discount on mk2. I for one purchased just before the release when the mk1 was at 599 euros and 5 days before it went to 399 and I found NI perfectly reasonable as they got me a refund of the difference so i dont think they are "screwing us over". They have been to me perfectly honourable, if I get a sense of them they might pull something out of the bag later.

I got lucky and managed to get a new MK2 for $399 USD on Amazon (3rd oarty seller) a couple days ago. The white model is gorgeous. So much nicer than the MK1. The same seller had the Mikro MK2 for $199 and I almost regret not getting one of those too. Prices have since gone back up to normal and are $200 USD more again. I think the much cheaper prices were a fluke but I'm not complaining. If I see good deals again I'll post them here.

Well, surely you would pay for the update in the same way as you would for other NI products? You wouldn't pay full price for a new version of Komplete every year if you already own it, would you? Sure, there has to be a cut-off at some point - I wouldn't expect free or reduced updates indefinitely - but I don't see how offering sale of the new controller separately, with a potential future update price for a 2.0 version of the software, as being unreasonable.

    Do you?
