Sorry, yea... The way it was in 1.8 that you could easily record the notes into DAW.

As far as I know, NI eliminated the midi batch with the 2.0 update and then brought back a work around with the 2.1. I bought the 2.1 when it was on sale recently and I havent gotten this to work with Cubase at all. There have been a few threads on this here and the mod, b. righteous, has been good at trying to explain how it done but its a big mess to me and I've returned to 1.8. To me there are a few development problems at NI.

1 They no longer seem to be able to explain anything in terms of any daw except Abelton Live. If you're not a Live user it wont be easy. Any question about Cubase - they send you tutorials for Live. Looks to me like the future of Maschine will be a loop player for Live

2, NI seem to be unaware that users want to record midi straight into a daw and bypass Maschine internal midi recording. They killed a tremendous feature on a whim and have brought it back in a "screw you" way.

3 There are several tutorials posted from well intentioned users showing workarounds for Maschine 2.0 and then 2.1. This is confusing and NI takes absolutely no initiative and clearing this up. Again I think daw integration as it was isn't a concern for them

anyway take a look at this thread, ignore the "interesting setting" stuff and read in 2 pages, there is a discussion of a work around and some seem to make it work.

also I wrote to NI about how to make this work in Cubase. Here's the reply including ,as expected , a few links to Abelton tutorials.

    Things to remember:

The MIDI page of the Input properties for Sounds and Groups replaces and extends
the features of the Sound MIDI Settings and Sound MIDI Batch Setup available in
    previous MASCHINE versions, respectively.

**Group Input MIDI setting = Group Sounds to MIDI NOTES (sound per note)**

**Sound Input MIDI setting = MIDI NOTES to Sounds (chromatic scale per selected
    sound)**

You must have the MASCHINE controller set to MIDI mode or have a general MIDI
controller to send MIDI notes & data (Please make sure to adjust the MIDI in in
    CUBASE to the relative device.)

    1. Select the correct MIDI device (MASCHINE STUDIO in the example)
    2. Select MASCHINE 2 as the plug-in (if you haven't already)
    3. Determine whether or not it will be a GROUP or SOUND MIDI set up (See above)
    4. Activate the MIDI in MASCHINE 2 (GROUP or SOUND)
    5. Set the MASCHINE CONTROLLER to MIDI mode (MASCHINE STUDIO in the example)
    6. Record enable the track, press RECORD (NUM *) and play the notes desired.

I had the same promblem it took me a few hrs too sort, 1.8 was not bad at all, there both in league of their own, but try it worked for me, just change the midi settings for midi out and preferences, you don't need to change the midi input in mashine it's allready set too all,
