Basically if i'm trying to edit note lengths or frequencies within a pattern using the mouse, often I have to drag it miles away from where it is before it moves visually. Notes in the piano roll basically feel 'sticky', which makes editing complicated melodies or whatever extremely tedious.

It can't just be me getting this im sure, but I wanted to check. I've had this issue for a long time, maybe since 1.5 when I got my Maschine.

Hopefully, if it is an issue everyone has, it will be among the 'various bug fixes' in 1.8.

It's probably down to either the quantise or snap settings. Try adjusting them.

ive thought they were a little hard to edit but im thought it could be my wireless mouse which was causing the issues.

try changeing the quantize/grid size i know that helps me

Use the zoom to see more of the pattern. Notes snap to grid with mouse. You need to turn the grid to off for free mouse dragging.

Yep, the piano roll needs work badly - its a real pain to use. I would much rather see things like that improved than some of the other features that have gotten the spotlight, but thats life. Currently I have to do all serious piano roll editing in Sonar.

There are horizontal and vertical zoom controls available on both the hardware and in the software.

Yep, and you can collapse the browser, arranger and modulation lanes to get more space. Navigate.

Yeah the note length is set with the grid, that's fine, I probably shouldn't have mentioned that, its just a nuisance when I have to drag a note to it's smallest quantize setting ( i.e. 16th) before I can then make it as long as i'd like.

It's really only moving them up and down that I have a problem.

To be honest I haven't really messed with any real piano roll editing using the controller, I just figured the mouse was what I was used to for that kind of thing. I might spend a couple hours trying to get quick with it some time.

Cheers for the replies, seems it's a common issue.

I have noticed this too. I hate using the mouse for the piano roll and step sequencer. its just clunky.

note end editing will probably be the best thing in this update for workflow imo. I hate playing chords and having to drag each note in the chord to the end of the bar. very time consuming.

yeah, for moving up and down i prefer using + - semitone or octave on the controller

nope. you can do it anywhere, it will apply it on the selected notes. i'm talking shift + pad 13-16. You'd need to be in the piano roll to see the change tho.

sorry dude but your wrong here. shift + semitone +/- just transposes the samples in pad mode. this only works when youve sliced everything to one pad and access teh slices in keyboard mode.

would be great if they did make it work like this though,i never use the shift shortcuts for pitching

oh, i misunderstood what you are after? are ya talking about moving notes up/down the piano roll?

what i meant was, if you select the notes, shft semitone +- makes the notes go up/down by a semitone in piano roll. like c to c#. but you dont need to be in the piano roll to do this, only if you wanna see the change.

sorry if im still not understanding.

The editing from mouse has always sucked in maschine, vs say Motu Bpm or fl studio.. This is an area I'd like to see perfected
