Thinking of upgrading my Mac - any problems with that, I know it had teething issues which is why I waited but are they sorted?

I only go to the next OSX when I need to so I don't know. Maybe you need to ask on other forums how other software is doing on El Capitan, I'm not sure every developer has caught up with it. Discontinued software might be problematic.
As far as I understand you can run Snow Leopard in VMWare Fusion on any Mac, but that's not very convenient.

My big concern is the drivers as Apple changed how USB works apparently.

I just upgraded to a MacBook Pro Retina mid 2015 with El Capitan after my MacBook Pro mid 2009 started having hardware issues.
I used the migration assistant through Target Disk Mode on the old MacBook.
I had to transfer Waves licenses to the cloud and to the new computer, and iLok licenses to physical iLok key to new computer.
I had so many midi entries in Audio MIDI Setup that I had to delete all of them to keep Audio MIDI Setup from freezing.
I am about to reinstall all Native Instruments software on this machine. I tested Kore 2 first though.
I had to reinstall the Kore 2 MIDI Drivers and reboot in order for the Kore 2 hardware to work, but it does seem like it will be fine.
Don't rely on Migration Assistant to work well with NI software, especially since in my case my hard drive was smaller and I couldn't transfer the sample libraries folder. None of the kore presets loaded, I had to open them from my Documents folder, but I was able to navigate and tweak them OK from the Kore 2 hardware controller once I loaded them. Hence I'm going to uninstall and reinstall all NI software and start fresh there.
I have Komplete 5 Standard, 7 Standard, and 10 Ultimate.
Seems best install would be: Komplete 7, Kore 2, then Komplete 10 Ultimate, only what isn't installed already.
I will be doing all this in the next week, so I'll keep you apprised here of my progress.

If you use Migration Assistant then be prepared to relicense a plethora of your software; ie, NI, Arturia, Nomad Factory, Ableton, iZotope, Korg, etc.
I had to reinstall Pro Tools, Pro Tools 10 wouldn't work at all, it's forcing me to use Pro Tools 12 now, which can't load Kore afaik. I don't think Kore ever supported AAX or had an AAX version.
These are other things I've dealt with along the way. I plan on using Kore 2 only within Ableton Live.

Also check that your soundcard hardware will work with El Capitan, especially if it uses drivers. In my case, my Alesis IO4 is working OK in 24 bit so far, but my old school M-Audio Conectiv is useless now for DJing with vinyl, I plan on getting the Traktor A6 so I can continue to DJ with turntables.

Of all my software, NI is proving to be the biggest pain, but I'll keep you posted on my progress there, I plan on spending 2 full days just to reinstall and test all my NI stuff.

I'm thinking of just upgrading the usual way, by running it over Yosemite, not using migration assist (too many complication as you say that way). So if the drivers etc are already installed it sounds like it should work?

I was pleasantly surprised that the Kore 2 driver installed OK, I still love my Kore dammit! It's why I tested Kore 2 controller functions first and foremost. It's the damned Komplete install that will be the biggest pain I think.

Kymeia I do think you'll be fine in your upgrade scenario. I would recommend cloning your current drive first before upgrading, but I think you of all people would do that anyways :)

I have upgraded to El Capitan. After reinstalling the latest KORE driver, hardware and software work without a problem.

I've gone as far as the public beta for Sierra on one of my computers, and at least the software works. There are no reported USB driver changes in this edition, and all my other stuff works, so I'm going to give the Kore hardware a spin too when I have time. There are enough bugs and issues for general use that I recommend El Capitan though.

Hmmm, I just installed Kore 2 on El Cap., and Service Center does not see it to activate it. I entered the S/N in Native Access, 'Thank you for registering Kore 2!" but that changed nothing for SC.

It was 2.1.0009 per My Products download link; downloading 2.1.4 now to see if that is seen by SC. [edit: and, no.]
The support ticket now has a drop-down list for Products, no way to type anything and Kore is not in the list of course. Unsupported product anymore, yeah I get it. Disappointing.

Here's a stab from the past: the installer took 10.11 as 10,1 and threw the message "you need 10.4 at least" to successfully run the installer. Opened package contents (which Pacifist didn't see) and installed it piece by piece.
AND of course I need a pre-5.2 Absynth to run it right in Kore.
    I miss the olde days.

Back in '11 I planned to dedicate a computer to Kore 2. I still haven't, I like using it as my plugin hub and preset librarian in Logic, but it's time to upgrade my main system from Mavericks to El Capitan, can't update Logic X to the current version. Maybe I reached that point.

Well, Kore's internal Absynth 5 turned out to be 5.03 so I have a useful bank at User Library as .ksd, and they still have the older versions at an obscure page here, suppose I'll stick 5.11 in its database. I made several great patches my first day here with 5.3.1 so Absynth 5.3.1 in Cubase 9 is already going to be a thing.
But I can't activate Kore, Service Center won't see it. I've tried editing 'distribution.dist' a couple different ways but the installer won't finish. I'm not sure that will make Service Center do anything different so I'm not real into much more of that business.

I'm somewhat far away from my big computer, bought a MBP that had 10.11 on it. It got sick so I had to rebuild it from 10.6.3, to 10.6.8 to even be able to get to 10.11. I had to torrent that because Apple doesn't provide; to get to 10.12 requires 10.7 so the App Store->Sierra was just too much.
Now 10.10 is the minimum for most things. Cubase 8.5 was happy in El Cap so... I may be done with Kore on this setup. In VEP I still did Kore/Absynth 4 in its 32-bit server, on the big machine.

I never had to activate Kore after NI started with the new program, is there anyone in this thread who found a workaround? Copying files from another installation or something?

Well, it kinda looks like the people in this thread that reported it working fine had it already activated on the machine that was updated to El Cap.

I've heard you can't activate Kore 2 with Service Center OR Native Access and I haven't heard a solution yet.

nope, the solution to that has not appeared on this forum anyway. Native Access thanked me for registering it but it doesn't appear in Installed Products. It's history. I tried the version of Service Center that came with the Kore 2.1.0 installer. I'm about to find some age-old SC here but I think it's wired how it's wired and is not going to see Kore 2 anyway.

I find it hard to believe that NI made it impossible to install their software.

The version of SC I have on my system is seeing Kore 2 but I guess that may be because it was activated long ago - this is worrying as it would stop me being able to move Kore to a new system. I can see this forcing some people to consider using a cracked version (if such a thing even exists).
