Mac v. Mac this must be a first :) I was under the impression that most Mac user on this forum are using two core mbp correct me if I am wrong and only since 2.2 are people complaining about CPU drain. Thing is I have no probs with my so called crap Mac but I think I saw you complaining? May be my haswell chip copes better? But I can only say what I see.

Ok, I get it. You feel offended because you own the new mac mini. But you definitely don't get why I do not recommended new mini mac to the OP. We waited 2 years for the new models and what we get? Machines that are much less powerful then old one. For me this is ridiculous and I don't buy it.

I see you found my complains. Did you also found out that those complains refer to my dual core 2011 MBP with i5? Your brand new mac mini is 45% more powerful than this 3 years older 13" laptop so you have some more room. And BTW the issue with dual core also concerns Kontakt, Reaktor (try to run Polyplex and see how much CPU it consumes) and other CPU hungry VSTs. So maybe you also didn't noticed that my CPU issues are more related to Reaktor. Maschine itself plays fine. But yes, at first I though it was Maschine issue.

I'm not trying to fight mac vs mac. I'm just giving my opinion and my advice to the OP. If it was me I would search for the 2012 version of mac mini. But they are probably sold out because after apple conference people were buying them like crazy.

I hear you bro but i think when it comes to leaving constructive critisicm its not always about i heard or i read i was trying to leave first had user experience of using the new mac mini and i stand by it. I had a opportunity to buy a quad core for half the price when i got my Mac mini but after the research i did i came to the conclusion that the newer mac mini suited my needs more with the haswell chip, and the quad core was only gonna benefit it you were constantly using all of those cores like running a video editing software with heavy rendering and so (i gonna quess that is why you probably got one forgive me if i am wrong). Fact is the 2011 i7 2.9ghz mbp i had running mashine was working great for me so i knew for the purposes of how i was using maschine the 2 cores where never gonna be an issue combine with the highly rated haswell and fusion drive. Then came 2.2 but i am not having these issues what your getting with you older mbp and a lot of other people are having and i do believe this is something native instrument are working on solving. So i go back to what i said in previous post it all depends on how you are using and the needs for your prodution everything has its limits. For me i have zero issues with my haswell chip and 2.2.3 and i am living the dream playa.:)

This is always the key. As now I know that Reaktor ensembles are causing me troubles I changed my workflow and it's fine for me.
At the same time, when I work on quad-core I can use much more ensembles without any problems, so just mentioning that I can feel huge difference using dual core and quad core. This can be misleading, because if I create a track on a quad and forget dual limitations it can cause a lot of trouble trying to play it back on laptop ;)

yep I was reading on other forums the new models are not as powerful and you can upgrade them same as the basic imac they now seal them so you cant upgrade them yourselfs so they work out very very expensive compared too a custom built pc .im saving my money now too buy my dream pc later this year.

I heard a rumours that Apple have some problems with new minis. They were waiting for new CPU from Intel but it didn't happened. But it's just a rumour.
It's always good to check benchmarks http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks to know what you're buying.
I think for now, if you want stationary mac you need to go for iMac. But i hope for better minis in the future.

This is result for 32-bit single core. Go to multicore (and 64-bit maybe) to see the difference.

So what your saying is that the Mac Mini when using 4 cores at 32 bit then the performance sucks?
Screen Shot 2015-01-21 at 1.20.58 AM.png That is bad.

Sorry, but I don't follow (probably my english).
First image shows result for 2014 mac mini with one core, then 2012 with four cores and than again 2014 with two cores.
Results between 32-bit and 64-bit are not that different, but I mention 64 because new system are 64.

The problem is that new spec should be better not weaker. If there will be an option to change to 4 cores CPU when buying it will be great. A friend of mine was wanting to buy new one but after apple conference he bought the highest model from 2012.
I think Apple is wanting for new CPUs from Intel. Then thay will provide new macs. But will there be new mac mini? Who knows. I like minis and don want to switch to iMac in the future. I prefer to have a monitor of my choice (plus usually it's also cheaper to get mini+monitor than iMac).

I bet they do away with the Mini's now that you brought it to my attention cause basically they can force to spend more if you only have the "big" options.

Yeah, I thought they will ditch minis after not upgrading the line for so long. But then they make new ones. Not so powerful but they didn't forget about them. So that gives me hopes that they can give us new ones with better specs.
But of course there is an option that they choose minis to be their „office line” computers – cheap units for the office workers using only Pages, Numbers and stuff like this.
Or they just leave them behind :D

I have the same mini 2012 setup. My question is will it run Kontakt 10 ultimate? From what I gather the application goes on the internal and I would need a thunderbolt external for the sound files.

If you buy Komplete 10 Ultimate (I think you were meaning this not Kontakt) you will get it on a USB drive.
I have only Komplete 10 (not Ultimate) and I use external drive for sound files so I can work on mac mini and MBP on the same files.

On the other hand – people are speculating that Komplete 11 is on it's way.

and we are still waiting for an update to the mac pro from 2013... and the macbook pro from 2014 as the last macbook pro was exactly the same as the last 2015 except it came with a different track pad.. still makes me laugh.. how i am expected to be always up to date with mac software when their computers are 2 - 3 years out of date.. while it does make me feel better about my 2014 one not going obsolete in 6 months ... though the new iMac quad 27 looks very nice, i test drove it a couple of days ago.... anyway, the next round of macs should have the new usb c and thunderbolt 3 which is worth waiting for... if they put a standard usb c on the iPhone and iPad, i may just port over from android devices...
