well, i am looking for any soundbank software which could convert the voices which uses only FM synthesis (because AWM of the 77 is not implemented) :
by reading into sys.ex. datas, and convert them to be played well by the FM8 :

    is it possible ?
Does the FM8 contains the FM algorythms of SY/TG77 ? (i remember there is a free editable FM algorythm so that all could be covered)
Then, all the parameters should be the same values and the sames effect on the sound... else it will sound differently.

But is there any possibility ?
it's important for me because i have a lot of songs composed with TG77 sounds and i must have these sounds and not other ones.

but my main TG77 has crashed this morning !
Most importants songs i made, like "Entre la Nuit et l'Aube"
    ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOAe38ptg_k&feature=channel_page ) wich uses only TG77 voices.

For the AWM sounds i can manage with new better quality samples, but i want the same FM ones.

i saw the SY100 but i would like to make music and i don't know if i can re-programm even ONE sound with SY100 :
manually entering the parameters, even the sames, doesn't give the same sound on a different synth, even FM <-> FM.

i would like to use my sys.ex TG77 voices datas.

Thank you if you can help.

    SY conversion

Hi, its possible with Soundiver by Emagic.

I would open the SY77 and DX7II modules at the same time. Open a patch in the 77 module, and copy the editor values. Then open the DX module and paste. The values that are compatible transfer. Then I would save to DX library. Did a bunch. Then you launch FM7 and configure for midi loopback: SoundDiver port out->FM7 midi in. Then sysex over the patches from the DX to FM7. Once in FM7, save in native format.

    Cheers,

    It's up to NI

Converting a SY77 patch to DX7 format often doesn't make much sense, because the SY77's AFM is much more powerful than the DX7 FM. On the other hand, FM8 should be able to interpret most of the AFM parameters (the different operator wave forms and the advanced algorithms, for example. Any optional AWM part. of course, must be ignored). So why does NI hesitate to write an SY AFM-importer, it shouldn't be that hard and would be a very nice feature - or wouldn't it be worth the investment?

    Regards,

I doubt VERY MUCH if it would be worth the investment. The SY/TG synths were (IMHO) very much 'of their time' and cannot compare to modern equipment. But, having said that, I DID sample a few sounds off my TG33 and still use them today.

I wouldn't underastimate TG/SY77, it's a pretty mighty FM synthesizer, surpasing the DX7 in lots of things, but the presets weren't showing its true strength. The TG33 is a completely different thing...

I didn't intend to underestimate - simply to opine that, in fashion terms (which appears to be all these days), they have more or less had their day - so NI would be unlikely to devote time and money to writing a converter; it would (I guess) have limited appeal.

I know that the TG33 was the least of these and was simply seeking to balance my apparent 'put down' of TG/SY synths by admitting that I was quite fond of even this low-end machine. The sub text here is apparent.
