Perhaps something for NI to think about for Maschine 1.7 :)

I hope NI doesn't waste their time on physical modeling and crazy stuff like that, I think it would be better to work on multicore (especially for the vst's in 1.6) and tighter integration with maschine and NI's synths/samplers. Just think about it if you had the ability to open up and manipulate all the controls of NI's synths/samplers that would give us many features that we want. You would have timestretching, great sample slicing, multi-format sample import, physical modeling, superior effects, FM synthesis, multi-padlink/trigger, and more. Truth be told you have crazy power wether you're using Maschine, a MPC, or whatever comes next so let's just bang out great music.
    Peace.

I thought the idea for the video was okay. Make a quick beat easily.

Good luck to them because they're a long way behind Maschine and they don't really seem to be bringing much new to the table.

I think this generation of 'hardware' is all about the software (well duh) and NI are leaps and bounds above everyone else in this department in both experience and R&D. I think we can all trust NI to keep Maschine going for a very long time. I'm not so sure about this

And now Roger Linn and Dave Smith are showing Tempest. Looks dope but I am not sure it will compete.

Both these look more like self contained instruments but don't seem to have the same sample editing or VST and midi support like Maschine. Maschine is more a production instrument like the MPC that is meant to be the center of your production environment. This puts it in another league to these others that are popping up.

Yup. But it's nice to finally see any kind of competition which can be only good for Maschine.

That DSI/Linn tempest looks like a beast, but at $1999 I'll stick with my NI Maschine unless I win the lotto or something :)

Actually no, it does beat Maschine in that department. Maschine CAN NOT import midi files and NI has no plans on implementing it.

Not saying Spark beats Maschine in every aspect, just in the midi import department.

I'll probably get it when it comes out. I love Maschine but there are things that NI are doing that are starting to bother me. Maybe the competition will force them to focus. I know a lot people already have their haterade hats on but this thing looks impressive to me. An integrated synth engine is a good thing IMO. I love VSTs as much as the next guy but one of the things that I'm afraid of is that when 1.6 rolls around we will lose the freedom of not having to use a mouse. At least this thing looks like it has enough knobs to accommodate most VSTs. I don't just want to hate on this because I use Maschine.

I wonder if Maschine 1.6 will be able to host Spark that would be silly but fun :)

Jahrome, you will like the Kronos, it's seriously a very nice sounding workstation and the tech they are doing in that thing is nice. It's got a HUGE multi gb library, but it all streams instantly from the 32gb solid state drive inside lol.

I love it man, and it sounds great.

they came out with the ipod version last year, it fit flat in the controller so I'm glad to see this one is actually tilted up. I really wish they would have had a working model with the iPad in it, the controller itself seems solid and will be dope for iPad applications. Akai connect (their new midi ios tech) works with other ipod/ipad applications now so it could really be a dope concept. I like it.

To everyone else, the Spark concept is pretty cool, but the only way it compares to Maschine is the hybrid approach. This is more of a straight drum machine, and in that regards I think it will be dope. The controller is VERY nice, it feels like an actual drum machine, I think they have some sort of wood/mineral board thing going on that makes it feel solid.

I wouldn't mind playing with this thing along side Maschine for sure. But will have to wait until it's fully done, the units they have here at namm are not fully ready so I can't really gauge it just yet.

Now Tempest...yeah...Dave Smith and Roger Linn are playing in their own lane and I love it, sounds amazing and I def want both of them (Jahrome...I talked to Roger, the linn drum II is still coming, it will be the sampling version of their new drum machines, I see you grinning already sir! As was I!)

Thanks for the NAMM updates saintjoe. The Korg seems like an OASYS on steroids but I don't see any advancements listed for sequencing or sampling workflow over the previous boards. Good that it has more synthesis options and a large 32 gig SSD with streaming. That is a break through for workstations <500 mb limit lol. Wonder about the price though. If it is not in line with the Fantoms then it will still fail against laptops running Kontakt as well as the Motif XF.

Great news about the Linn drum II. That is the only one I have my eyes on. Not interested in these groove box type things with no real sample editing and full on sequencing.

BTW, did you get a chance to talk to MOTU to see if the new M5 is worth bothering with? What about our overdue update?

yeah man, the Korg joint really impressed me, I could never afford the Oasys, but this seems to do a lot of what that one did, built in. The fact that you can sample no matter what mode you're in is sick too lol. The sound design is nice and the streaming library is really sick. They did a great job, I expect it to be in the same price range as the current workstation, I will try to find out when I go back today.

The Tempest is sick, I'm a sampler guy myself but I want this thing, it's fun, and the sounds is just incredible. The pads feel great and the build looks awesome.

MachFive3 is a must have, that's all I will say about that ;)

I've never been into MachFive previously, so it's new to me, but again, I will say, and knowing how you work B....you will want it lol. If you've been a user of previous version you'll probably notice even more stuff than I do, but from a new user perspective, it's really nice.

I wouldn't mind having some kinda hack though so the buttons on the top of Maschine chase the step sequencer like that on Sparky, though--ala classic Roland TR style. Sometimes I get dizzy when in step mode on Maschine. :p

This sounds weak. No hip hop producers will want to use this.. The sounds are weak and Arturia hip hop plug-in is also weak. I dont kno where they sample their sounds but I cant get with them!

Yeah I never really liked Arturia and I don't care about the Tempest either I want 1.6 already! 1999 for a drum machine is retarded.

I am much more interested in tempest. it truely looks like the future 808.... all analog drums, man having that sound combined with maschine is gonna be great. it is just a completely different sound lane than anyone else is in. and for that I commend them. it in no way competes with maschine but along with it, (or any sampler) will be great. I have been thinking of getting a slim phatty or an tetra lately (just need some analog sound to give a different vibe to what I have now) but now I think I may save my money for tempest. looks very exciting. (and so much smarter of a buy than an old 808 lol)
