I have looked extensively into the issues surrounding ID3 tags and iTunes/ Traktor scratch etc and can't seem to find an answer to my problem.

I am running Traktor scratch pro (1.2.6) on a Mac (10.6.4) and have noticed a couple of issues in my workflow of editing tags etc and have finally come to find a pattern?

In my Macs finder all my tracks are organised in the iTunes media file under music. When you go into a file for a single for example the two tracks are displayed as small icons with their artwork.

Then all of this is displayed nicely with artwork in the iTunes program itself.

Finally it is also in Traktor as my iTunes playlists that I like to Dj from as well as the Traktor collection. Both Display MOST of my artwork artwork.

Most of my files are 320kbps mp3 with a mixture of ID3 V2.3 and 4.

The problem that I have noticed is that when a file is imported into traktor the artwork in the finder is removed although it is still present in iTunes.

Furthermore there are a handful of tracks in traktor that aren't displaying their artwork in traktor or in the finder although it is still present in iTunes.

Has anybody found an answer to this so that the artwork is present in all three places preferably by just adjusting stuff in iTunes as this is my preferred music management program.

One thing I've noticed with iTunes is that if there are a number of tracks from the same album only one of the tracks has to have artwork for itunes do display it for all tracks even though those tracks don't have artwork stored in them. Make sure there is actually artwork stored in the file. "Get Info" under iTunes will show you the details.

best thing for problems regarding missing cover art is to include it from within traktor.
    those will stay (almost) always.
traktor stores the info for tags within the file. i don`t know for sure about the cover.
but within your traktor pro folder (do a search) there`s a folder called coverart.
there`s info stored there as well, don`t know if it`s the cover itself or just a link (kind of).
make sure that you copy this among the rest of the folders and the collection.nml-file (all in the traktor pro folder) - if you are goin to move/copy or backup your collection (the mp3s).

then, again - best thing is to use the playlists from within traktor, not from the iTunes node, because that doesn`t always provide best results.
so, maybe you do the work once, and import all of your playlists into traktor itself, not just the iTunes node, and you`ll be happy from there on.

that`s of course just my experience !
    good luck

I'm no expert on this, but I find tagging a real pain in Mac OSX as it doesn't work with mp3 meta-data i.e. tags.
I also don't like editing tags through Traktor, it's slow and cumbersome when you're tagging a lot of mp3s.

Fortunately I also have a PC so I do all my tagging in MP3tag which is really very efficient. I've never had any problems with artwork. I thought of installing Parallels/VMware to run a couple windows apps I miss including MP3tag, but I'm happy at the moment doing everything via PC then transferring over to Macbook and importing.

Edit: I also don't use itunes, so I guess I'm in a different situation

    Cheers for the replies people.
I have found that once I have loaded all of my tracks into the decks in Traktor and then quit it all the artwork is still in iTunes but not shown in the finder...
However if I then go into iTunes and right click> convert ID3 to 2.2 and then back to 2.4 the art reappears in the finder?
    Weird.
This seems to be a solution although it is a bit tedious to say the least doing it to 1000+ MP3's:(
