Hi - stuck on this... I've not used aux/mixers in Kontakt before:

I have created a percussion based sampler instrument where each 'instrument' i.e. shaker/clap/tambourine etc is mapped to its own key and has 5 round robin variations defined by the group start options. However I wish to assign each key (and it's subsequent group/round robin obviously) to a mixer output so I can have each 'instrument' on its own fader within Kontakt. This will make mixing a lot easier!

I hope that makes sense, I will happily clarify if needed. I'm also happy to read manuals etc, but I'm struggling to find the information/tutorials I need for these purposes.

    Any help appreciated - thanks.

First off, create /configure all the necessary outputs in the Outputs (Mixer] section (and route /connect them in your DAW, as needed)

    Then in Kontakt,
    • open the Instrument Editor
    • open the Group Editor,
    • turn off [Edit All Groups],
    • select the Groups that you want to go to a different output (2 velocity zones in the screenshot),
    • in the Amplifier section, select the desired output.
    As in the attached screenshot.

    Application Reference manual: sections 14.1 / 2, 15.1 / 2 and 20.

Thanks for the reply and info!

However I didn't want the mixer/outputs to be routed through the DAW as I'd rather mix within Kontakt for this patch.

    I assume this is possible?

    Thanks

You can do your mix within Kontakt in the Output section if you want.

    Right thanks...

I'm looking at this again now and confused... I don't want to assign a group to an output but specific notes. because my groups contain round robins of all of the instruments. i.e. Group 1 has shaker A on C1 and Clap A on D1 and Group 2 has Shaker B on C1 and Clap B on D1 etc. But I want shaker and clap to appear on their own output within Kontakt.

Maybe I'm not understanding this fully, I admit i find Kontkat confusing :-/

So, put each note in its own group. If you have round robins, set all the round robin groups to the same output...

I'm trying to get my head round that... not sure I understand... I'm pretty confused about this...!

Sorry I am trying, but I've never understood Kontkat beyond building basic patches...

You're implying each note should be in a group and then assigned to a round robin position in the group start options, then assign the relevent roups for say 'tambourine' to an output?

    That's correct.

Hang on, I still don't think that works.... if each note is in it's own group and they are all on a huge round robin, then if I choose to play a tambourine on D1 for example, it won't necessarily be there... because I have 5 cycles/round-robins for each sample.

Maybe I've not explained this well or maybe I'm not understanding. Totally stumped :-/

OK, here's a different suggestion. Why not make each percussion in a separate instrument? Then you'll be able to use volume and pan controls in instrument header, and Bob's your uncle.

Hm, that's actually so simple it's probably perfect... would love to learn more about Kontakt but these things take so much time! Ok, thanks will give that a shot asap.
