Does anybody has a problem with AK1 using with Vista?
    I do..for a year

When I play music with AK1, it stops for about half second randomly and continues again.
(no tik-tik sound, just often stops)
I tried everything to solve it with software, and my laptop setting such as format, driver updates whatever it takes.

I can see there's no problem using it with Windows XP (thus no hardware problem I think), but using with VISTA, I have the problem which makes me very hard to do my job. Recording or listening through AK1 had been stopped by constant random short stops..
Is there any clear solution I can have?

My laptop: T7500, 3gb, 320gb, brand new still...
VISTA Home Premium 32bit, no virus or hazardous activity with it.
AK1- new driver, good cable and USB connection.

If this problem goes on, I'd rather buy other product to record things. Any comments regarding this issue or solution would be appreciated...

    I'm in really desperate.

I gave AK1 back after finding out that it does not work with Vista, NI support confirmed my unfortunate discovery (on their laptops)
maybe the newest drivers update fixed it.
many people used AK without noticing the problem-clearly visible in task manager as regular wave like spikes every 20 seconds hitting 60% CPU. If the computer has powerful CPU you wont notice it with say, Traktor but with something heavier like DAW it would be hearable.
Strange enough this was reported on the forum before but when I reported it to NI they were not aware of it ( past Septemeber)
Since NI support told me honestly not to expect fix in weeks I exchanged it for Konnekt- fabulous, definitely best sounding card with the worst drivers in the universe. So I wont mind loosing money Ebay that crap and get AK1 again if its problem got fixed.
So first thing you do is update firmware and drivers, please report here. I want USB2 and AK is the best ( on XP is perfect).

    Yes,,,

    I did follow the link,
but it still does not work.
Maybe, I should give up, or change into XP which my laptop won't be fitting into.
It is very disappointing that NI does not update the driver for VISTA.
Thanks for the reply tho :)

You might want to read through Timur's thread on controlling DPC latency (which is more than likely your problem):

    http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77739

He's talking about bootcamped Macs, but the procedures are the same for reducing if not eliminating DPC issues on something just running Vista natively.

So you would not recommend Audio kontrol with vista?

I never said that. Most users haven't any issues with Vista. However, with the ones that do, DPC issues are what's usually the problem (as is the case with any audio app or hardware and Vista if there's issues).

I have tried absolutely everything to get rid of these clicks. I have my midi controller hooked up using the midi in on the Kontrol. I have killed every non vital process and disabled all non vital hardware. I've run the DPC checker and it never spikes over 500 but still I have clicking in cubase sx3 and reason 4. I using a vista machine with 3 gigs of ram and 2.0 dual core. Never had this problem on my XP machine. All drivers and firmware for the Kontrol are up to date. I'm at my wit's end here. Please someone, give me a fix for this problem.

    Thanks

My issue was a fualty headphone socket. I was using the socket until my genelecs arrived.

Now i did have clicks with in windows 64 bit regardless of the socket. but i reinstalled vista 64 and went into my bios and disabled the audio card which is built onto the motherboard since then no problems.

The mapper dont work at all in windows vista and Kore player wont play a single sound as stand alone on vista 64.

The Kore player more than likely installed to the wrong folder. Reinstall the player and its content to the Program Files (x86) folder- not the Program Files folder.

Also, remember that the player nees MIDI input...

After some research I found that Cubase SX3 is known to have problems with Vista. I borrowed Ableton Live 7 from a friend and no problems so far.

No- the player''s purpose is to be used as an instrument or effect.

    hello all,

I noticed that this thread ended a few months ago, but hopefully some is still out there.

I have been having massive problems with my Dell Studio 17 laptop and having the audio kontrol 1 working properly with Ableton and the Kore Player.

With Ableton I was running tutorials with recoding audio and I would skips in the audio that my computer would not recognize

(to make a little clearer, lets say I was recording the alphabet and as I was saying 'a b c d....' my computer would freeze for a moment skipping a few letters and continue whenever it started back up i.e. a b c f g h)

I have gone through their tutorials to work on latency and not much success has come from this, and I have read the optimization link posted previously in this thread and not much has helped. I know my computer is a powerful machine (2.4 ghz dual core processor, 4 gb ram) and the Audio Kontrol 1 is a fine piece of equipment. But for some reason this is not working for me. If anyone can lend any additional help if they have been in the same issue but had this resolved I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    DrG

Make sure you have the latest updates. What version of Vista are you using? Double check that you are running the right drivers? Call Tech support NI in Los Angeles. They help me out quite a bit, if I have a question or email them. They may take a day to respond, but they do.

I am running Vista x64 sp1 (sorry I thought put that in there). I am pretty sure I am running the right drivers because my computer recognizes the AK1 unless there is still some issue with the driver I downloaded from the site?

If all else fails or if no other responses come into this thread I'll contact tech support.

Now how much of a difference does the shutting off of the antivirus make to this? I was thinking of shutting off windows defender and the antivirus, but like the link in this thread said, I should not perform if I am going to use the internet (which I do need for updates from NI). thanks for all the help so far!

For my computer I have no internet on. It's just for music. Follow this guide all the way-http://www.audioforums.com/windows-vista-optimization.php.

man I am losing it, I am sure it something I am doing but I can't my latency to go lower than 2 usb buffer and 16 for audio and when I use kore I still get some some cracks with I do more than for notes at a time...

I found something that Quartz posted about the studio 17 so I am going to follow that forum for a bit but if anyone else has info I'll be checking here still.

Much love to all who have helped so far!

btw, here is the link to Quartz's thread if you have a dell studio laptop too.
