i think the point is that people who are acquainted with REALLY experimental music realize that auteche are still fairly "normal" when it comes to composing.

however, they're still freaking awesome. i don't think they'd ever claim that what they were doing was "composing" really, it's always been more in the post-hip-hop post-techno DOON-BAP direction, just really advanced.

They do pwn, but they're don't in any way shape or form top the head **** scale, IMHO. They're on it, admitted but Stockhausen it ain't.

Maybe that's why they pwn :)

there are several tracks on amber that i find really amazing, simple yet truly mind altering somehow. i also like the peel session disk. i’ve only listened to draft 7:30 maybe three or four times, and i don’t see myself listening to it again.

Yeahyeahyeah, John... it was the best thing I could think of just then...

Anyways, I find the biggest head****s to be modern acoustic classical... Like Henryk Gorecki. I just don't follow... !

Autechre's earlier work, palatable or not, is great: Tri Repetae, Chiastic Slide, LP 5, and my favourite at the moment Envane e.p. WOW!

As for Stockhausen, I have a great weekend in front of me (some may disagree).

Firstly, I was only joking. :)

Secondly, I love when someone claims an artist's work goes from "genius" to something else at a certain point in his/her life. Does the artist get dumber? Drink too much? What causes the new non-genius music?

Well, piece of art requires both genius and work. While you have first all the time (I agree), the second is not always there.

Hey, that brings back sweet memories from high school. I remember playing one of his Klavierstucken, and I think a bunch of people in the audience were wondering when I was gonna stop banging that same chord :D Was a beast to memorize, that's for sure. That is once you're past repeating the same chord for 187 times :p

I've grown away from such engineered music (engineered, as in constructed using mathematical formulae, Xenakis is a good example that comes to mind). It was fun, but in the end it kind of lacks in the emotional department.

I think Professor Ultimate rivals Xenakis on many levels.
