I have four Mac G5s. I've deauthorized one G5 Dual for K2 so I could run it on a G5 Quad. My question: when I get the second copy of Kontakt 2 to add two more licenses so all my computers have K2, will I be able to authorize that computer for the new license - or no?

The new license? Sure, you can do that. The reauthorizing thing applies to a specific serial number on a specific machine.

Also, a reformat (full; not quick) of your system drive and a reinstall of your OS will generate a new and unique system ID, allowing you to authorize on a machine that was previously deactivated. However, I've heard of cases on Macs in particular where even though the new ID was generated, there was enough in common with the old ID (only one number changed, for instance) where the user couldn't reauthorize. I've had to reinstall Windows more than once on the same machine, and I've found the reformat allows me to reauthorize without a problem.

    Thanks.

    Okay, rant ahead:

In the GigaStudio world, if you want more licenses to cover multiple computers, you had access without having to buy yet another full copy to have two more licenses. Instead you had extensions at a reduced price. Tascam at least understood the needs of digital composers relying upon direct-from-disk streaming and multiple computer farms.

Many of my composer friends have between 550-1500 stereo instrument samples online in their prospective orchestral LAN setups. Personally I have 384 (4 instances of K2 on a G5 Quad, and 2 instances of K2 on a G5 Dual - both used as slaves.) For example: if I want 1200 instruments online in realtime on my studio's LAN - that means I have to buy TWO copies of Kontakt 2 to cover it. That's crazy making.

NI needs to work out a pricing scheme that addresses the needs of pro composers who are making the shift from Giga to Kontakt 2. What burns me up is that I know I will need to do this AGAIN - and paying $399 every time I want to expand my kontakt 2 template seems unreasonable in light of what other reputable companies are doing for their customers.
