I just bought iMaschine 2 and coming back to Maschine I noticed how essential this feature is

 

Its a wonder anything spontaneous ever gets written on these pesky machines... This should be the unofficial goal of the technology, to free your creative juices, not hinder you.

Instead you've got to think about setting BPM's and then working to that off-putting metronom before you actually address that idea you have in your head. The alternative would be to somehow record yourself beatboxing and then translate that into a pattern..

iMaschine shows what is possible,, we just need Maschine proper, to facilitate that same spontaneous work-flow.After you imput the first bar, the technology should determine the BPM and bar lenght.

For someone coming from a background of old fashion analogue instruments, this modern 'incremental' approach to creating music, can be so dam frustrating. Often what we hear is based on the limits of the technology,

Hats off to all those who somehow manage to get by with things as they are.... on bit at at time.

 

Maschine is a non-standard and inferior sequencer compared to any DAW on the market. It is the worst of both worlds. A sequencer with scenes for arrangement and patterns locked to other patterns lengths not allowing editing of smaller patterns without changing all of them. That is a nightmare for creating fills. And, it is a subpar DAW with no audio track integration for vocals or other instruments.
A half baked idea whose designer should be covered in honey and made to roll in an ant bed.

The lack of this feature is the only reason I regret purchasing Maschine two times.

Oh and no option of having the playback restart from curser instead of stop position.

 

I don't remember if this was suggested here already, but I think it should just be a replace record option on the record mode (shift+grid) With this enabled, shift+erase+record would throw it into a standard replace record mode. Pattern length would be set once you punch out or stop and snap to the grid setting for patterns. It would also erase all previous notes in pattern if they exist and not just for the selected sound. That is not unless you are in keyboard mode.

 

There's an easy way aroud this. Just put the pattern lenght very large and start recording. After the recording just adjust the pattern lenght to the recorded play and done.

 

How do I set a particular length for ex: 5:0:5 can I do this ?

 

Change the Pattern length in Pattern mode (hold PATTERN and knob 4, I think). However, while that is a viable workflow option, it's by no means a replacement for this requested feature, which even iMaschine has.

iMaschine does it, so why hasn't this mode been implimented in Maschine proper?

Lets say i have an unusual beat in my head, how quickly can i translate that into Maschine?

on Maschine i have to set BPM by tapping this in, then set the amount of bars, practice with a dry run on the pads, and having pressed record, i have to endure the sound of the metronome, as i tried to recreate that idea. Or i use step time mode to enter a conventional kick snare pattern and then work around that to find the beat i had in my head.

On iMachine, i would practice on the pads, then arm record, which waits until i start tapping in the beat. Finally with the beat entered, press stop and loop. I don't have to fixate on BPM or bars. So when will something like this be implimented on Maschine?
