I have a sample that runs for a bar looping four times over a 4 bar pattern. I want to modulate the pitch so that it goes up and down in a melody over the course of the four bars. I'm not wanting to change the pitch at the start of each bar though, so shifting the semitones up and down with Shift-13 and 14 isn't an option, because it would restart the sample from the top. I want the sample to have a melody going on within itself. Playing with the tuning knob, it's easy to play the melody I want because Maschine displays from 0 to 1 to 2 semitones; but when I attempt to record, it changes to a percentage, and I don't know how many percent are in a semitone. Drawing it in is no good either, because there are no markers to show where the notes are.

Anybody know how many percent equal one semitone? Or a way around this? I do understand why the tuning would be a percentage, for swells and cool effects and whatnot, but an option be able to play in either semitones or cents is key, I think.

I think many of us share your pain - i have kinda gotten used to it daft as it sounds - would be nice if there was an accurate way

another issue is having no automation tools, like a line, its impossible to make a linear increase of any parameter :(

i have a workaround, it might work in your case, but it depends on the sample - doesn't work so well on rhythmic samples.

put the sample on legato mode, turn the glide up significantly, put it on adsr. play the c3 and hold it, then halfway thru the bar play a c4 and hold that to get the initial note to drift up.

or, you can use a pitch bend wheel for this.

it doesn't work so well for rhythmic things cos the pitch change will speed it up, but for pads/chords/stabs it can work pretty well. for rhythmic content you could use kontakt and do the same thing with legato mode.

Thanks for the responses. I ended up just doing it by ear. It took a few tries, but I eventually got it. Still, would love it if NI could allow the ability to tune by semitones in both play and record modes.

would be very nice for these things especially automation lines will be coming in an update soon, the percentage thing needs sorting BIG TIME - who really wants to work out percentages of a harmonic scale while using autowrite via a dial.

    please NI - come on.

automation curves and/or lines please and if something is measuring in pitch (resochord, tune knob etc) can we have the dials tell us what pitch we are working with.

I have feature requested the above now

The issue is Maschine uses generic percentages for all it's automation and VST parameters instead of the actual values. The values are there but Maschine does not use them. This would be a huge improvement.

    Did you read this anywhere?
I wanted to ask this in a On The Record session but they denied the question in the last run.

sorry - 3 words missing from my sentence and should have read "especially automation lines i would expect in an update soon"
only just re-read what i typed after you quoted me. it should be included that is without a doubt - surely not one of the hardest things to achieve

yeah im also pretty surprised that no1 besides me has requested this yet, since it is very much needed to do some proper/exact pitch-automations for example

yep - i am pretty sure if i spent half an hour @ maschine with my head on i could figure out the percentages but i am not sure for 1 that i have the patience and 2, the drive.
