Ok, so I figured out the autogain bug.

The auto gain value, which is supposed to be set just after analyzing a track, is not set when loading a track, ie, it stays on 0.0.

To get the autogain to take affect, the track has to be loaded a second time after being analysed.

I am using Traktor on Windows XP.

Please can others with this problem confirm that this is how to recreate the bug before I file this with support.

REMEMBER: test it with a track which has NOT been analysed before!

The Autogain is set when you load a previously autogained track. When analyze is running, because you have just introduced the track to Traktor, Traktor will not change the Gain.

Imagine you're playing live and Traktor suddenly increased the gain by 6dB after the analysis. As a precaution, you need to reload the track for the gain to take affect.

Oh, so you're saying this is normal? I wouldn't know, before S4 I was using VirtualDJ where the gain is set after analysis, seeing as the analysis is pretty fast.

I would still love this to be done automatically as I have tracks loaded and waiting quite a bit before they are needed, and I rely on autogain to keep the clipping at bay.

Then again, I could just not be lazy and analyze my entire library :p can traktor do this automatically?

You reckon this should be in the suggested features forum then?

It is normal behaviour. You don't want sudden volume jumps, particularly in a club whereby you could suddenly deafen a lot of people.

You can analyse your entire library, sure

For the rare times that the track needs to be played while being analyzed, yeah!

    --> Still a future request :p

    Thanks!

Sure, go ahead. This has been discussed for a few years but not yet with the S4 :p

I for one would like it to stay the way it is.

Hold on..! Your issue with Auto Gain not being applied is because you havent analysed your tracks..?
No wonder auto gain stays on 0:0. Traktor HAS to analyse the track before it can apply a Gain Setting.
Also i believe that a track needs to be re-loaded so that Traktor can read the updated stripe information. This is intended behaviour.

You should not analyse whilst playing a track. This is not the right approach.
It is recommended that you Analyse your tracks before playback.

Check the Manual for 'Consistency Checker' and use it to analyse the collection.

Please check the Preference Setting in > Mixer > Level > Set Autogain When Loading Track.

    This is not a bug.

Yes, i mentioned before that I did not realize that this was intended behavior. Coming from VDJ for the past 5 years, this was for me a bit of a shock.

To me, it made no difference whether the track was analysed for the first time just before playback. Technically, no playback actually occurs until the song in analyzed, which only takes like 5 seconds anyway?

My entire track collection has been analyzed so I never noticed this as an issue. I would recommend that you add the music you want to play to your track collection and be done with it.

I totally agree with Karlos, i analyze pretty much all my tracks up front.... The minute i get new beats, BAM open up Traktor, Analyze and sort them all right away.

But that's just how i sort my stuff up....

Oh yeah plus it takes what about 1 min to fully analyze a track.... Like i mean come on, just load it in, play something else while it's doing it's thing and then just reload it into the next deck no ?

What id like as feature request is Multi Core Support for Analyzing tracks...

The more cores you have the more track is scans at the same time...

I mean with the ever growing track collections, ok leave it scan overnight but in my case i need to leave it on for 3 full day's straight....

Only scan your new tracks. You don't have to do your whole collection everytime. If I buy 20 tracks in one day I only scan those 20 tracks. Doesn't take long at all. You only have to do the big scan once to get you collection going, then just do the new ones.

Of course i scan only the new tracks...

Once the main analyzing is done you don't have to do it again, but what if you need to re do the whole collection scan again?

Am just saying they could add the possibilities to do it that's all.

if you decide to do this, i'd suggest you to make sure the grids you've already set manually are locked. otherwise you'll experience an ugly surprise... ;)
