    Hi everyone,

When you make any kind of rack in Ableton (instrument, audio effect etc.) you are presented with 8 macro controllers that you can assign to various parameters and dial in different values. Maschine also has eight MIDI dial encoders on the controller. Is there any way to get Maschine to automatically assign its eight encoders to those in a new racked Ableton instrument, then update automatically when you click on a new racked instrument in a different channel? This would make the world a perfect place to live in.

I've tried using the Controller Editor and have to admit I'm stumped. This is what I do:

    1. Start up a new template in Controller Editor.
    2. Go into Ableton Live.
    3. Open MIDI Map Mode.
    4. Click on macro encoder 1.
    5. Twiddle knob 1 on the Maschine controller.
    6. Repeat for encoders 2-8.

I know I am doing this wrong. When I load a new racked instrument in Live, the dials will only still turn those encoders on the first instrument. If I save the instrument in Live with the MIDI mapped macros in place then load it back up afresh, the mapping has disappeared.

And why don't the pads work to trigger notes in Ableton? I thought they did straight away.

I know I must be asking something really obvious, but I am new to MIDI programming and would really appreciate some guidance. I have tried to follow the manual but am still stuck. Thanks to anyone who has the patience to help.

Aware I am mostly talking to myself on this thread, I post in the increasingly vain hope someone might have an idea and the kindness to help.

I have just found the UserConfiguration.txt file in User>Library>Preferences>Live 8.1.1.User Remote Scripts. I've had a read of the instructions, fiddled with the numbers still to no avail. Am I warm?

    Hey,

I've just found this topic while looking for a few info on the web.
You have already sorted this out by now, haven't you?

If not, did you look at the instant mapping feature? Does it suit your needs?

Not quite sorted - but better. A user kindly PM'd me and explained a little about what to do, although its not perfect. I can get Maschine to control drum racks automatically, or to instantly map across the eight encoders on Ableton's instrument/effect racks, but not both!

Any ideas how/if you can get Maschine to do both?

Thanks for the reply by the way! :D

    You're welcome :)

    I've never used Maschine, sorry.

Did you try emailing both Ableton and NI's support?

Does your current solution use instant mappings?

At the moment I'm using the Mackie Control emulation template. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you've got your head around it, its very powerful. I've kind of given up on the instant mapping for the time being. I might give it another go when I've got more time.

I think it might be the right approach to try.
That and emailing both Ableton and NI, in case it doesn't work out for you.

Yes. You need fragmented's LiveMaschine template. It works as a remote midi script for Live and has instant mapping for Live's macros and Group A automatically maps to whatever 16 pads of Live's Drum Rack that are in focus.

    @wickedged

    hey there,

have you worked this out yet?

if not, contact me and i can forward you some stuff i have customised using mackie, user config, and midistroke for key shortcuts. some pretty handy stuff for overall control of ableton.

i've just recently wrapped my brain around some these concepts so i could give you a hand if you need it.

sounds really good, i'd definitely be interested in a template that did that...would it be possible for you to share in the templates sticky too?
