So I'm recording a set in Traktor LE2...

As I've got a track playing, I'm loading the next track and setting up my hotcues. This of course requires me to do a little fine tuning with my jog wheels.

After I finish the set, I open the recording and begin the playback of my recorded set. Everything sounds great except I can hear the sound of the jog wheels turning (that backwards vinyl record noise) in my set. So it appears the recording also recorded what I could hear behind the scenes (in my headphones). There were also a couple of times where I started to introduce a new track, but it was off, so I stopped and started again. Again, this was all going on in my headphones-I hadn't officially introduced the next track, I was just previewing it, but it still recorded. Am I doing something wrong? Hoping its just a rookie mistake.

I am running LE2 on the American Audio VMS 4.1 Traktor Edition.

    please check your "Output Routing"
do you record internal or via the VMS Hardware Outs?

My output routing is shown in the attachment. I guess I record internally. The sound is going through the USB straight into my computer, as I'm not using any kind of external recorder. Also, I'm now running Scratch Pro 2 instead of LE2.

    hmm, okay.
I'm always recording in internal mode, so I try to understand where the signal goes ...

but, next question is, where do you get the "scratch version" of traktor..?

As far as my signal goes, I have the controller plugged into my computer via USB. Then I have a red and white RCA cable going from the controller's master output to my stereo. I have my headphones coming from the controller. Traktor Scratch Pro is available from the Native Instruments website.

please try to switch your audio setting to "internal" and reset your output routing to the new situation.

I attempted to switch to internal, and I got a whole new set of problems. What I found out was that my master output was on outputs 3/4, and my headphones were on outputs 5/6. Unfortunately, I couldn't monitor each deck separately using this config. Recording in Traktor shouldn't be this hard. I know there are tons of controllers out there, which makes things a little complicated, but this is ridiculous. Basically, I'm running a piece of software worth $300+ and it won't record with a supported controller? I'm just about ready to give up on it altogether.

Okay, after some searching, it seems I have come across a solution. I have included a link to a forum post on the American DJ forum that should help. It helped me. Also, I copied and pasted the important info so you don't have to search all of the comments.

    http://forums.americandj.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/727105965/m/3530019016?r=1680077116#1680077116

I've got two options for recording with Traktor and the VMS4/ 4.1

This one is thanks to K3NND0 and works perfect.

1 Set the VMS to 8-out mode with the switch on front of the VMS.

2 Set the channels in ADJ ASIO driver settings as follows:

    Midilog 1 = Out 5/ Out 6
    Midilog 2 = Out 1/ Out 2
    Midilog 3 = Out 3/ Out 4
    Midilog 4 = Out 7/ Out 8
    Master rec = In 5/ In 6

3 In Traktor/ Preferences/ Output Routing set Mixing Mode to External and the channels to:

    Output Channel A = Out 1/ Out 2
    Output Channel B = Out 3/ Out 4
    Output Channel C = Out 5/ Out 6
    Output Channel D = Out 7/ Out 8

4 In Traktor/ Preferences/ Input Routing set the channels to:

    Input Channel A = In 1/ In 2
    Input Channel B = In 3/ In 4
    Input Channel C = In 5/ In 6
    Input Channel D = In 7/ In 8

5 In Traktor/ Preferences/ Recording, set Source to Extern and External Input to Channel C

If you want to keep the VMS in 4-out mode (switch on front of the VMS) this is another option to record with Traktor.

1 If you're not using the master or booth output, connect it to line input 2 or 3.
Otherwise use a tape/record output from your amplifier.

2 In Traktor/ Preferences/ Input Routing, set Input Channel A to In 1 and In 2 if you connected the VMS output to line input 2, or to In 3 and In 4 for line input 3.

3 In Traktor/ Preferences/ Recording, set Source to Extern and External Input to Channel A

You should now be able to record all audio coming from the VMS with Traktor.

I'm not sure I understand the question. You can get it anywhere NI sells their products. Online or retail.

please go to Native Instruments homepage, and add a Scratch version to your cart - and woohooo ... there is a Native Instruments soundcard that comes with the software.

Your setup (like you described above) does not include a Native Instruments sound card - so, where do you get the software..?

Now I see why there is confusion. I'm sorry, I'm still new to Traktor so I didn't realize the big difference there. I acquired Scratch Pro from a fellow DJ friend who sold off all of his equipment to get out of the game. He mistakenly let the sound card go with the rest of his stuff. I was running on LE2 and needed a way to run Traktor Pro, so he gave me his software. Since I had no need for the scratch function, I didn't need the sound card, and he didn't mention it to me until I asked.

Sorry, but this means you're using the software not legal- even when you didn't know that a soundcard is required.

Just because I got the software from someone else doesn't mean it's "not legal". That's like saying buying a car from anywhere but the dealership is illegal. The guy who gave it to me is no longer using it. It's not like he made a copy of it for me.
