Anybody else get an unusable hard drive? I just opened Komplete 8 Ultimate and got a "disk not recognized" error. I tried all the solutions in the Knowledgebase. Nothing. How could they ship a hard drive with NO protective packaging? letting it get tossed around by UPS with NO buffering? I'm REALLY bummed.

I know what you mean, bummed indeed. Did you send a Tech Support request?

I just received the Komplete8 package but one of the discs in the middle was missing. Found that out after I spent over an hour or so installing.

I sent them a tech support request right before their business hours, and it's just about the close of the day for them, but no response yet. I heard sometimes they don't get back to you for up to a week.

    best to ya.

What OS are you on? I suspect the drive is formatted as exFAT, but you need at least Snow Leopard (patched up) or Windows XP SP3 to read it. Does Disk Utility even show that there is a drive there?

No protective packaging at all? Pictures, please! If it's really that terrible I'd very well believe the drive is broken :/

No protective packaging at all...Not a milligram of foam anywhere...And there are no readable volumes in either Mac or Windows. I tried it on 4 different computers and operating systems. I'm running Data Rescue II on it right now to see if there is any discernible data. There's nothing that a picture would show. suffice it to say, the hard drive was just placed in the box with the manual, and was jostled and god knows what else during shipping. Instead of making music today, I'll be spending the day playing cat & mouse with tech support. No matter HOW inconvenient they try to make contacting tech support by phone, I'll f*****g get through!

Disk Utility only shows a device, no volumes, FAT or otherwise.

Yeah, write to support. If that's standard packaging I expect more cases.

The more time I spend on these forums the more I begin to question my getting on the Komplete bandwagon.

I'm discouraged by so many reports of it taking weeks to get an email response from tech support, no one answering the phones in the Los Angeles office, careless (as in couldn't care less) shipping policies, and I've only been on the forums since this weekend; less than a week.

I understand that forum complaints, generally, represent a small segment of users and that most don't experience the issues detailed in these forums. The discouraging aspect, however, is what appears to be a very real lack of expertise in customer support. I did, however, find a post from NI technical support where they admitted to being overwhelmed with tickets which would lead me to believe it may actually be a QC issue. Neither scenario is confidence inspiring.

My HD Just Clicks and Squeaks!

I also was so excited today when I rushed out on my lunch break to my neighborhood Guitar Center to get my hands on the new 8 Ultimate I have been dreaming of. Only to open it in the car and find the mid section of the packaging all dislodged and the HD kind of sliding around in the bottom of the Big Outer Box. Hmmmm I thought it was a used package and went in and asked if this was a return? Nope, the plastic security seals on each end were intact before I cut through them with my car keys.

I get it home and when I hooked it up, all it would do was click like a dying HD. After about twenty times it finally spun up long enough for me to begin install. Then it would crap out. Never could get it to complete install on the two times I successfully had it spin up. Grrrrrr Finally after 4 hours I was tired of trying. Tech support is supposed to send me a UPS label so I can ship it back. They said.... 2 to 3 Weeks. AAAArrrrrggghhhh. All that cash and now I gotta wait 2 to 3 Weeks? How about some eVouchers!

FYI, its now Monday the 5th of Sept. Early morning and still no email or contact from NI. My last post was on the 1st.. see above i guess. Needless to say, my weekend of sessions did not include my expensive upgrade located nicely on my DOA Hard Drive. I was able to get a few items from the website and load them... GR5 but there is not a place to download Alicias Keys, Studio Drums, George Duke or any of the other packages. Only three updates and thats it. Anyone else get a DOA HD from NI Komplete 8 Ultimate?

    Bad HD also

I also received a bad HD, so frustrating, and still waiting for an answer from tech support after 4 days !
Worse, I had the same problem with Maschine, bad disk, I had to wait another week to received a new disk to finally use it.
This time, I'm afraid I would have to send the defective HD first to NI before they would send me a good one ?

    Bad days...

In the UK, the retailer would be responsible for supplying you with goods that are not faulty. So I would give GC a go, for a replacement. Just state the facts - the disk is not recognised by your system (details ?). They may try to read the disk contents on one of their systems to ascertain whether it is faulty.

7 days and NOTHING from NI !

No answer, no sorry except from Keir on the thread ! (thanks by the way)

This is so a shame how NI treat their customers.

I bought K8 ultimate directly from NI, and waiting it's all I can do !

I don't blame them to get a defective HD, but simply the fact that the support is really really bad.

Trying to stay cool but also thinking of asking to get my money back and spend it elsewhere !

Here is a video of my HD and what it does. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I can't wait to wake up in the morning and play my HD / Metronome!

    Enjoy!

    Hi,
    Same problem here.

    As Martinerskine :
"There are no readable volumes in either Mac or Windows"
"Disk Utility only shows a device, no volumes, FAT or otherwise"...

Backup of the Komplete 8 Ultimate installation disk

When I read the feedback regarding the bad disks of Komplete 8 Ultimate I tried to create a backup copy of my disk. But obviously most of the content is hidden or something like this. I got only a few GB copied, no 200GB. What will happen in the case, the disk will be unusable in two or three years, when I try to set up a new music computer? Will NI deliver a new one? Most probably no I would say.....
