I discovered when trying to set up my new Maschine that the installation DVD that came in the box is bad. In my Mac Pro (10.5.8) the DVD drive just hunts and hunts, then ejects the DVD without ever mounting it to the desktop.

I found some others on the forum with the same problem, so apparently there is a batch of bad DVD's. Some of these users indicated that they were able to access the DVD on an alternate computer, create a clone of the DVD, then install that DVD on their main computer. I'd like to try that, but I don't know how to clone a DVD. I tried on my Windows PC (running XP service pack 3) to manually copy the contents of the DVD to a folder then to drag that folder to a blank DVD-R, but it gives an error message -- perhaps some kind of copy protection or system folders? I also have access to a G5 PowerMac that might be able to open the DVD, too. (I haven't tried yet to load it in this computer).

Can anyone explain to me how to create a clone of the install DVD on either Windows XP or on the PowerMac? Do I need special software for this? I'd rather do it on the Windows computer but perhaps it would be smoother sailing on the PowerMac. (My PowerMac is put away in a box, which is why I'm trying to avoid turning to it so far.)

Thanks for any tips you can share.

I was able to download the install disc image from Native Instruments (thanks, guys!). If anyone knows how to clone a DVD I'd still be interested to hear about it for future emergencies, or just out of plain curiosity.

Could you tell me how to go about downloading this install disc image please? I'm having the exact same problem.

    Thanks very much.

Cheers, just had a look around some similar threads, you must get bored of having to say that.

Edit: I know its an old thread, but since I noticed an unanswered question....

To answer a question in the thread about cloning a disk.. On Windows I can recommend using this tool (link). It also allows you to "mount" (access) such images easily.

On OS X I wouldn't know for sure, but my guess is that "dd" (commandline tool) should be able to cope with that.

Something like "dd if=/dev/dvd of=maschine.iso" where "/dev/dvd" should point to the right device which represents your DVD device.

Keep in mind; I'm not familiar with OS X but am I with Unix (and -like) environments; so this is kind of a guess.
