I'm using Intakt for the first time today. Is it possible to create new instruments, or are we only to use what is already there and modify and save them?

My main interest in buying it was to work with and process my own loops. When I try to load a sample on a "new instrument" a dialog comes up that says "can't find sample" even though it's right there. What am I doing wrong, or am I trying to do something that isn't possible?

The manual is even more useless than Logic's and frankly, I'm not sure where to start.

    Does a tutorial exist?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide,

You should be able to create your own instruments, just by drag-and-dropping the sample you want to use. Maybe there's something wrong with your setup. try update your copy of intakt.

Make sure the browser is visible (click its button), then use the browser to locate samples on your hard drive, and drag them on to the keyboard at the bottom of the screen. That's the first step. Then you'll be able to start making adjustments.

Intakt can indeed work with your own loops and do wild and wacky things to them.

At some point, I may try and post some tutorial videos on working with Intakt, but it may not be for a while (too busy...)

    Update

Thanks for your replys re: baffeled. I was aware of the features you mentioned, but it was a different problem. I would drag a sample to a key and get a dialog that say's "can't find sample." I dug deeper.

    Observation 1:
The samples I was trying to drag and drop were on sampler CDs. I tried many and failed with all. These were legal sampling CDs like "Burning Grooves," "Neo BreakBeats," Here's what's up. Intakt will take any audio file recorded by you through Peak, Logic, DP, etc. In Panther at least, it does not recognize Aiff files from CDs. My workaround was copy the file in Logic to a SDII file and then all was well.

    Observation 2
Recently, someone posted on the EXS forum that samples from CDs were coming up as white noise on the EXS, though they played fine in Panther's file preview window. I had the same experience with Peak. Now we find those samples won't even load into Intakt. Again, the solution that solved all the problems was to make and use a copy of the file in a different format, e.g. SDII 24bit, etc. Me thinks we have a large insect nested in Panther's fur.

    Best to all
    James
