    Hello,
I just got the latest version of Bandstand for Windows and I have the following problems:

    - I installed Bandstand and the Library to my e:\ drive. When I launch Bandstand stand-alone, I get the following error "Can't load multi!". After clicking ok, Bandstand popups up and there are instrument names in the 1 through 5 columns (bottom part). I don't see anymore instruments names from 6 to 16 (maybe this info helps).

    - Also, my previous installation didn't have that problem, but the problem that it did have was when trying to use it with Band-in-a-Box, it would not load the Drums in channel 10 or any channel. I know that it's not BiaB because with all other soft synths that I use, the drums load fine. I tried it with all possible setups: DXi, VST, and stand-alone (with a soft midi driver). The drums just never load when the midi is sent to it from BiaB.

    - Also, when I close Bandstand's plugin within BiaB and then open it again, it locks up the whole application and sometimes my system (forcing a reboot).

This is a bit disconcerting considering that I just paid $100+ for this software. Band-in-a-Box with Bandstand is the perfect match for rehearsing and getting a nice sound. I really don't want to return the software, so if anyone can help, it will be much appreciated.

    Regards.

I'm not sure what to say to help, but I'll tell you what works for me. I use BS with BiaB, but I don't use it within BiaB as a VSTi. I run BS in standalone mode, and route BiaB's MIDI output to it.

You can do this easily with sofware to create virtual MIDI ports. Hubi's Loopback, MIDI Yoke, or in my case, MIDI-Over-Lan (by Musiclab). Open a virtual port, say #1. Tell BiaB to send MIDI on it, and tell BS to receive on it. Works great for me.

As far as your library and drum channel problems, try BS stand-alone and see if the same problems exist?

I just reread your message and see you have tried what I suggest above. Hmmm. Maybe, when you uninstalled or reinstalled BS your Windows Registry didn't get cleaned up properly, and still retains some erroneous pointers to the wrong directories. Maybe try reinstalling in the default directory and see if that straightens things out? If so, then at least you can troubleshoot that problem. You may need to use Regedit to get it to work in a non-default directory.

    Sorry I can't help more.

Oh, and make sure you have the latest update from NI, which may be newer than the version on your CD. And, use the Quickload Set available in this forum.

I wouldn't type so much, but I do find BS to be a bit of a pain to get working, but it's very much worth it when you get it going. It's too bad is seems to have been abandoned by NI. It sounds great, and I don't know of another software dedicated GM Module that can touch it.

    Thanks for help.

I do think that the problem is due to installing the app in a location other than where the program wants to be installed (that's rather lame programming, IMO).

Anyway, when I have the time, I will uninstall again (4th time), clear all registry entries, and then install again.

One thing I've noticed in the install log is that it failed to register a few dlls. And I do believe that it's because of previous installs.

I really do want to get this working because I know the sounds are good. It's just too bad that the programming for this application is very low quality.

I'll post an update to this thread if I find a way to fix it. I know that there are a lot of other people having the same problems.

    Yes.

The problem occurs when you install Bandstand anywhere but the default directory (i.e. default location in the installer program).

I uninstalled everything and also searched the Windows registry and removed all occurrences of Bandstand entries. After that, I rebooted and re-installed Bandstand using the default installation directory (i.e. c:\Program Files, etc).

Everything works fine now. It's unfortunate that you can't install in different directories because the Bandstand Library is quite large and some people may not have the disk space on the default drive. I had to uninstall some programs and games to make room. :(

    Good luck!

How many times did you install Bandstand? If you've installed it before and you've uninstalled it, you might need to delete all the keys in the Windows registry after you uninstall. The next time you uninstall, go to Start Menu->Run-> and type regedit (you may know how to do all this) and hit ok. This will bring up the registry editor. Using the Find command, search for "bandstand". As you find each entry, delete them. Keep using the command "Find Next" until you've found them all and deleted them. The next thing you might want to do is search for "NI_". I think they have some entries in there. Just be careful what you delete (make sure it's Native Instruments related).

Now when you install, don't change anything, just click next in the wizard to install in the default location (it's typically C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\...).

After you install, go the the installer log file that's located in the Bandstand directory and make sure everything installed correctly. It will list errors in that file. I noticed that my intall log file had problems registering some DLL files, that's how I knew the installation went wrong.

I hope it works for you. Bandstand really sounds great with BiaB.

I look at the installation log and I have the same problem: Dll selfregister failed.
I've tried to register the Dll but I can't do it.Seems to be an administation profile problem, but I am Administrator in my computer; so I don't know what to do!

    1) Uninstall Bandstand through the "Add and Remove Programs" control panel .
    2) After uninstall, click "Start" and then select "Run" and type "regedit" and hit ok.
    3) Select "Export" from the file menu and back up your registry.
    4) Select "Find" from the "Edit" menu.
    5) In the find box type "bandstand" and click ok.
When you find an entry with the word "bandstand" in it, delete it.
    6) Select F3 to "Find Again"... and for all instances of "bandstand" found, delete them. Keep selecting F3 to "find again" until there are no more instances and you've deleted them all.
    7) Select "Find" again and type in "native instruments" and do the find and delete routine again.
    8) After that, select "Find" once more and type "NI_". Find all instances of that and delete them (if they look like native instrument entries).

9)Now that your registry has been cleaned up from all Native Instrument - Bandstand entries, reboot your machine.

    10) Reinstall Bandstand and make sure you leave the default installation directory for both the app and the library as is.

It should work for you now.
