Is this the end of Bandstand? Or will we get a special crossgrade offer from Bandstand to Garritan General MIDI?
    see: http://www.garritan.com/GEM.html
"The Garritan GEM General Eseential MIDI collection was developed to provide better sound quality and at a price nearly every musician can afford. The Garritan GEM General MIDI soundset is embedded into the powerful Native Instruments Kontakt 2 sample player and works as a virtual instrument. No need to purchase a separate sampler. This collection is also powered by special NI Bandstand programming."

    Bandstand being 'chopped out'

I saw a UK music shop advert this month offering Bandstand at half price. Usually this is an indicator that the supply line is being cleared, either because the product is being dicontinued (which I've personally been convinced of for a long time now) or replaced. Perhaps NI are happy to bow out of this arena and be content with licence income from Garritan? Perhaps an announcement at NAMM at the end of the month!

I doubt they are getting out of bandstand. Nor are they taking over the BANDSTAND engine. - If you look closely at the Garritan GEM product info it is clear there is no MIDI player built in and that the interface builds upon the Kontakt player engine, NOT the existing BANDSTAND GUI.

BANDSTAND is such a good product - both the interface PLUS the MIDI player serve a particular user base. I doubt they would kill such a potential revenue stream since there is so much more they could add to BS to warrant people upgrading. i suspect the upgrade fees would be much higher than any license revenue derived from garritan.
