I just received Bandstand today & downloaded the update. I had a few questions about pops and crackles. I am using the BS stand alone player on a Toshiba P4 3.05 gHz notebook with 1 GB ram. I loaded a very dense commercial smf of La Vida Loco and attempted to play it through an Omega Lexicon USB 1.1 interface, setting the Audio Setup choices to DirectSound, Sample Rate to 44100, Output Device to DS Lexicon Win USB 1-2 In/Out. I optomized the memory and noted the following in the Master window: CPU max level 85%; Hard Disk max 95%; Voices 170; Max Voices set at 200; Memory Usage 177.74 MB (after optimization). I heard pops and stutters even with the Output Latency set at the Omega's maximum of 97 ms! I finally got the file to play without hiccups or glitches using the Toshiba's internal soundcard with its MultiMedia interface at 44100 with MME ALi Audio Wave with the Output Latency set at 144 ms! I am new to software synths/sample players and would like to use Bandstand as a plug-in in Sonar 5 PE. However, just running it seems to max out my CPU and I can't imagine patching it into Sonar! Or overdubbing with latency at 144 ms! Can anyone point me in the right direction if I have overlooked anything? Will Bandstand work on my system with the Omega? Thanks for any help!

    Hi Scott,

that certainly does not sound right! I get much better latencies with slower PCs e.g. by using an Echo Indigo IO sound card on my laptop at home.

Please also check out this thread for a registry fix to reduce your current voices and more tips:

the disk usage will only get better if you put the library on a fast external hard drive with USB 2 support. check out the Akoustik Piano forum for some detailed discusion.

    Best,

    Scott,

Maybe the USB 1.1 interface causes troubles? Notice that usb 1.1 has a very low max transfer rate: 12 Mbits/second, while USB 2.0 has a max transfer rate of 480 Mbits/second (firewire has a max. transfer rate of 400 Mbits/second). Notice also that you never may mix up usb 1.1 devices (for instance mice or PC keyboards) with usb 2.0 devices om a usb 2.0 controller. If you do so, the transfer rate of your usb 2.0 devices will slow down to max 12 Mbits/second ...
    Kind regards
    Luc
