I was updating to Sonar8.5 so I checked with NI service center and found Battery 3.0.6 PC.
I downloaded/Installed and found the Standalone and VST versions updated but the DX version did not. DX still shows 3.0.4.

I've always wondered which is better suited for a PC, the VST or DX version?

    Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks,
    Zip

I believe the DX standard is being phased out. It is not listed as a supported standard in the product specs. I think I heard that even Sonar is dropping it. Not sure...

Sonar 8.5, released only last week, still supports DX plugs. In fact, a bunch of "new" plugs in this release are DX-only, probably because they aren't really new, previously shipping with the now-defunct Project 5. But NI certainly seems to have deprecated DX now.

DX Plug-ins will always be supported by Cakewalk. However other companies are phasing them out with new releases and what not.. The PX an Vocal strip are a new plug-ins, not just for Cake users but for Cakewalk also. Its about time Battery got a new update.

True, we are not supporting the DX format anymore since quite a while. That format does not really offer anything relevant these days that VST doesn't also provide.

Well, don't take this the wrong way, but not even Cakewalk itself could accurately state that it will always support any given thing, so you are making a bold assertion there. FWIW, PX64 and VX64 are VST, at least, on my system. All of the new DX fx with 8.5 are the former Project 5 items. I therefore doubt that even Cakewalk is investing anything in new DX development. I am not surprised that NI is de facto dropping the DX versions. Where a plug exists as DX and VST, I invariably select the VST, 'cos I think that I stand a marginally better chance of future-proofing my projects that way. Just my 2 farthings, of course.

None taken, I do the beta testing for Cake an Motu, I'm sorry if I implied that PX n VX are DXs. I haven't re-read my post, if so I was wrong they are VSTs. I will say Cake has not dropped DXi.. That is for sure.. Cake doesn't forget they P5s an K2 users let alone the new MC users along with GT pro users, even though (between you n me) these have died along time ago.. I'm really surprise Cake resurrected the MC-line

To my knowledge, Cakewalk Sonitus FX Plugin Suite are DX.. Cake uses a VST-DX Wrapper Pro which is a product that allows to use VST plugins in applications that support only DX format such as Cakewalk, SoundForge, ACID, Vegas Pro, Samplitude, etc.

However, its all good.. I just wanna use Battery 3 in Sonar's new Step Sequencer, along with Motu's BPM.. I don't disagree.. I agree with what you are saying..
