Hi Guys/Girls, as I am sure many of you use Battery extensively; you probably have some great ideas for future updates. Please indicate your requests here in this thread. Lets try and keep it on topic, and have fun, no request to silly- but be realistic.

    1) I would love to see a filter implemented as a destination in the matrix and as a general setting on a per cell basis.
    (low pass and High pass)

    2) Resizable or collapsible sections of the GUI for optimized screen space. Would be great if you could specify how many cells you need but that is just an afterthought.

    save/load scheme in MAC version

    I LOVE this program!!!!

Sure the filtering thing is a no brainer. And EVERYWHERE you read about MIDI TIMING consistancy, but not just with Battery...Seems ALL virtual instuments have wobbly timing as opposed to their hardware cousins. Dunno if it's fixable on Battery's end or if it's juat the way things are.

    BUT THE BIG THING IS...

Gotta fix the way save/load works/doesn't work. Every time I update a kit, I have to hit the "file" tab on the GUI, then RE-choose the folder I waana save to and RE-type the whole NAME of the kit including the ".kit" extension!!! And of course I mispell something and end up with multiple kits and it's a mess. I've wirtten to NI about this before but was met with silence. Noen of the other NI apps work this way so wassupp??

This aside, Battery has become my right hand!

Aside from a filter, I'd like to see the ability to save a kit without having to save the samples. This would allow the user to make multiple versions of one kit without having to resave multiple versions of the same sample. It would also save a lot of time, and hard drive space.

    thanks

    suggestions

I'd really appreciate the kind of sample-browser you have in Kontakt...
A drum-map generator for Cubase would be quite useful too.)

can there be a mono/poly option for each cell, like an mpc,so you can do rolls and bounces easier.also,i've never been able to import a mpc program with out it crashing halfway thru.in addition, having more cells would be lush.64 would be perfect for us mpc lovers so we can import entire programs.in addition can you great folk add velocity to the list of objects that can be modulated,so a layered sample could be randomly switched between layers.thanks for such a hot product.

Okay, I've only got this program for a few days (and loving it btw.), but here goes...

Filters, well I actually could do without them, as I can just route everything through Cubase/Pulsar and do the filtering there. Some basic filtering in the program would be faster though.

    Stepsequencer!
It would make it the real utimate drummachine now wouldn't it?
FXPansion's drummachine has one (albeit a very simple one), so Battery should too. It's just so much more intuitive for drums.

The ability to bind keys from the keyboard to mute buttons so you can play "live" with muting/unmuting sounds without having to click on the tiny buttons.

The ability to mute/unmute groups of cells by selecting multiple cells and muting/unmuting any one of them.

Mmmm. that's about it I think.

btw. I didn't notice any problems with midi timing. This is supposed to be sample-accurate isn't it? Sound stable to me.

besides talking 'bout bugs (like the dual-CPU-bug I'm suffering, just to mention that once more):

    - a drum-map generating tool for sure would be a greatful task to devcelop;

    - more than that there SHOULD be a stepsequencer, maybe with 16 to 64 steps in a row to pick up when I love to (enhanced with a rebirth-like song mode - imagine what you could be with that!!!);

    - I, for myself, would then love something to easily export into a sequencer's midi track (and splitted into several tracks), to have everything I programmed triggering battery from there, like it should be;

    - would it be to bold to demand something like an own VST 2.0-interface for BATTERY on top of it, so I don't have to have a VST-chain running? (would give me an unbeatable standalone drummachine at hand ;-)

    - last but not least the sample-browser kontakt has.

All other things I can think of would be a set of more convenience, so they are not necessarily to mention here. All above is indeed more IMPORTANT!

One question: What timeline are you - roughly - planning on?

    Regards

Great suggestions guys... One thing to note- there is no timeline, these are only wish list ideas. Some are great- and I am sure even more will follow, but just because they are suggested dose not mean that they will be implemented. Please keep this in mind. So no timeline, no guaranties, just thoughts from the users

--- An avenue to express your ideas---

    Thanks,

Sure these are just suggestions but geez, imagine if all the features suggested here could be implemented in Battery!)
A LFO would be great too )

Add EQ for each cell so when you get to mixing you have more control over the drums

i second this motion...and third, and fourth....

    :)

BRING ON SAMPLE BROWSING. also i wan't more assignable CC#'s for modulation goodness!!! automating tune of the sample would kick ass too!

    Re: synthesis

i'm sure it can't be hard! NI are smart lads. i'm sure they can just plug in some reaktor-type ensemble and be done with it :D

and while i'm back on the forum....

this whole stepsequencer thing intrigues me...but what about being able to have different BPM than the host for each step sequencer....? so you could trigger a cell and have it fire off a sequence (like a complex fill or drumroll - with cc#'s for automation!!!)

    now THAT would ROCK...

    Battery requests

    hi chris,

    1. toggle the pitch module to alternately become the filter. viola.
    2. at least 2 global mod settings. check out the free SR202 drum mach. it's got a few slick ideas.
    3. whatever it takes to get the current kit name displayed when saving. and when I'm loading samples from a long list don't bounce me back to the top. so yes the browser issue stands.
    4. I would like to load my own default settings. the default amp levels are not suited for perc sounds. hassle!

    Re: Battery requests

Jake, your #3 brings up something that I would love to see implemented.. DISPLY of current .kit file name.
Or how about the display of the name of the kit and have a sub directory or hierarchy drop down menu with the same kit (i.e. the same sounds) but this menu would allow you to save/load variations of the kit. So for instance, you take a kit and you like the way it is with those sounds but now you tweak the sounds a bit- like add some modulation, envelopes, bit degradation or waveshapping and then save that as a variation. So you can freely chose what variation of that kit you want with out reloading the samples or dealing with saving issues.
Or with this same variation of the kit idea, perhaps you would use it with mute groups of loop files for live performance? By the way incase you guys haven’t tried this in battery yet …

[ -----oh shoot, I am going off topic :)-------]

Tip: Create a kit in battery using perfect loops at the same tempo. Then use the mute group feature to assign loops to a mute group. Using your best judgment as to what loops would NOT sound good while other loops are playing-> assign these the same mute group. (perhaps mute groups per row would be best for visualizing it).
Once you set up your groovy kit, have fun and improvise with triggering the loops via a midi keyboard---------------------- layer the loops and Jam On It!

    load / save cell?

Loading and saving cells rather than just samples (layers) or kits. Also, drag and drop of cells between kits in VST. See my other post on this. Maybe there's something I don't understand - this seems like a fairly basic requirement!!!

It sounds like Kontakt will be able to do a lot of or all or what Battery can do and more. I don't have any feature requests per se as I'm still learning what there is now; all I have to say is that I think it's important to make sure that Battery takes a route that is distinct from Kontakt in order for us to want to keep using it once we have Kontakt. Eg. In Battery you can set one loop, in Kontakt I think you can set several? So right there I would say, why not use Kontakt? Battery needs to take a unique direction so it is not eclipsed. Even a lot of the feature requests being made here, won't they be in Kontakt? Filters, step sequencers?

What I like about Battery is much easier access to my sound library than in hardware sampler. But I guess it could be even better.
How about nice browser on the left or right side of the window.
Something like in Pro Tools, but not just for samples loaded to a session. It should show content of a special folder, called let's say BatteryBank. You could have subfolders inside and samples in them. You could expand and collaps these folders and drag samples into cells from there. Browser should be as long as the Battery window is so you could see many folders/samples listed there. Also preview function would be great.
    How about that?

Also timestretch function would be great to adjust drum loops. But maybe that's too much for such a simple program.
