As there are some nice portable battery-powered speakers und the iPad has lots of battery power, too, it would be nice to have some kind of batterypack to power the Z1.

So one could take this setup to a lake or whatever outdoor location without lugging a generator around :D

Maybe I´ll build one on my own, 10 * 1,5V Batteries in a little box shouldn´t be the problem

Sounds doable. There are some usb battery packs available already. Let us know what you come up with.:)

Battery packs will probably run down pretty fast as the Z1 powers the Ipad too, which draws quite a lot of power (12W).

    Good thought!

solution one: making the battery pack big enough to power up the ipad, too.
possible (could not try yet) solution two: using a CCK instead of a 30pin to lightning adaptor to keep the ipad (4) from drawing power from the battery pack.

Update: the lightning CCK does not work with the Z1, the audiointerface works but the knobs etc. don´t.

    Just realised this myself!

How come the pioneer wego works via the cck to the ipad and this doesn't. If i'd known this i'd probably have given it a miss as i cant use the usb power supply now either (like i do with the pioneer wego and iPad)

    Very disappointed

Probably something to do with the Iphone being incompatible with the CCK, so the Z1 works differently by connecting directly.

This wont give the iPad power though. I bet the WeGo will sap the iPad in a matter of hours.

It's all about charging the ipad for me. That was the biggest issue for me.

the wego takes its power from the battery pack. the ipad battery just runs down as normal

This portability and no wires solution is the big advantage the wego has over the z1 currently

Yeah I realise that mate. I just think that the iPad battery will run down so quick it will be a pointless exercise.

I see your point. I just don't know that I would ever need to have an unpowered dj setup. You need power for the amp/speakers, may as well plug the mixer in as well.

I see these power packs as solving a problem that isn't really there.

It really doesn't run down so quick tho. Lasts a fair few hours, more than u'd average as a normal dj set, so I like the portability! Shame that the z1 can't offer the same option for those who's use it

Well we are kinda getting away from the main reason for the Z1 here. It charges the iPad.

The biggest concern people had with Traktor DJ was that there were no reasonably priced soundcards that could charge the ipad.
The fundamental USP of the Z1 is that it charges the iPad.

I really don't think NI were thinking about a stand-alone, powerless soundcard when they developed the Z1, they were addressing users biggest concern, power to the iPad.
I hear what you are saying, maybe NI will make a power pack but I highly doubt it. I think the job is done. I think it's for others (3rd party) to solve that conundrum. A gap in the market for someone else maybe ?

I know this will sound trite but whats next after a power pack?
Can we have it made water-proof?;)

So what terms would i search for to get a cable that fits into the power socket of the z1 and the other end being a standard usb cable end

You can't do that. The Z1 power supply provides more power than a standard USB port can provide.
