OK, I used to be able to easily do manual adjustments of the beat grid in Traktor 3 when it analyzed tracks all weird. However, the PRO manual only describes how to do this in PRO, and not in SCRATCH where you don't have the CUE key in the Transport section of the deck. The advanced panel keeps putting the cue at the beginning of the track, no matter where I have the track marker at. For some reason the grid on some tracks doesn't remain consistent so I need to place some manual points to re-teach the software the correct grid. This isn't happening often, but when it does it's wayyyy off!

Any help anyone can offer me would be helpful. The last track I have problems with was "little by little" by dinamoe (frankie records). If you have this or want to hit www.w-ki.com for a copy then try it on yours and see if you can understand what I mean.

    Thanks for the help,
    Ben

You could use the deck's internal playback mode instead. There you will find the cue button if you want to use it.

yea, I tried through internal mode - even there it doesn't switch the CD/Turntable buttons into CUE and CUE/PLAY. It used to in Traktor 3, but not with PRO. That is part of the dilemma. Even if I fix it in internal I'm going to need to know how to do this out Live on the fly if I get inspired by a certain track that I hadn't already re-grid.

Is there a setting in the preferences that can change those transport buttons in SCRATCH PRO? From what NI told me those buttons are the ONLY difference between the two softwares.

    Cheers, Ben

Notice I said the deck's internal playback mode. You are talking about internal mixer mode which is something different.

Just click that orange thing, change the deck to internal mode and the buttons will appear for 100% sure. Repeat for the the other decks if needed.

    ahhh

My apologies for the misunderstanding - Thank you! I should learn how to read before I try mastering software, don't you think? I appreciate you not making me feel toooo retarded. Cheers, Ben

    still having trouble

So on another note, I'm running into a problem I haven't seen before when manually adjusting a weirdo beatgrid. I'll set my grid markers, but every 16 beats or so the track starts to go off on it's own again, I fix that one and another 16 beats later it's all whacky. Am I missing something or is this track just totally screwed? Again, the track in question is "little by little" by dinamoe (frankie records). I'm not entirely heartbroken if this track just won't work; but I'd like to know how to fix this if it happens in the future.

see attachment for image that "might" help. Thanks, ben

It is hard to tell from the picture. It is possible the track has a wavering tempo, making it impossible to beatgrid. If the tempo is unsteady then the track can still be corrected by warping in Ableton Live. I'm also into House music so I'll try gridding that track later and let you know :)

bingo. you are going to get tracks like these from time to time, especially older tracks that used outboard sequencers.

try beatgridding drexciya's stuff lol. some stuff, like the quest, will work fine as i think they sequenced with the 909 on those tracks. but most of there stuff was sequenced using an 808 as the primary source, and that sequencer is all over the place. that's why their tracks have always been frustrating to mix, because very few of them just sit at a consistent bpm.

just a small example, but indicative of your issue.

I'm thankful for the background guys. And leave it to Frankie to release a track with a non-consistent BPM. So, here in lies one other major limitation of the "limitless" Traktor pro. If you have no control decks - you're SOL if you run into a track like this. I've been toying with selling my decks, and things like these have kept me from making the plunge.

However, if I warp the track it will be able to use? That's a great idea if that works. Thanks, Ben.

    Actually wait thats genius!

Warp your tunes using Ableton to get a straight bpm and then use Traktor to DJ with them! Man you have just sorted many issues I have!

I DJ Dubstep and all the tutorials are always with house music, I know the same techniques apply but I find it a bit more of a blag with Dubstep.

Any other Dubstep Traktor Djs on here with any tips? :)

Also, it should be noted that when you're checking your grid, you should check it quite a lot more than "around the beat marker". Even BPM differences of +-4 can look like it is correct when zoomed in; you only notice the drift further up/down the track.

On a related offtopic note, I have a single track that some genius has modified during production. For most part of the song, the tempo is steady as a heartbeat, but there is an exactly 63 beat part in the middle of the track that has been stretched to fit the space of 64 beats (I'm guessing a misplaced snare hit or something similar). Very tiresome to mix a track like that unless you know where this happens. I've worked around the issue by placing additional beat grid markers at the beginning and end of the "invalid section", so that a) I can visually locate it in the full track view and b) that after the section, my grid is aligned correctly again...

OK, I had the chance to check this track out, and it turns out you have the wrong BPM. It should be 125 not 124. Change the BPM, and there will be no trouble with the grid on this track :)

thanks for help guys, I actually had just gone ahead and warped it in ableton at the 125 bpm just to be sure and it works fine - alot of work for one stinking track; but I've got it squared away now in case it happens again. Thanks much for the help, you all rock! B

Would be cool if warping gets added in Traktor Pro.

To be honest I'd say it was the one vital thing missing from Traktor, and considering Serato and Ableton are joining forces I recommend NI thinking up some pretty quick

Did anyone mentioned already, that traktor3 beatcounter works better than the pro one -.-

i have to copy many of my bpms out of the tags into traktor pro (because of the collection importion issues), because it will not let me tap the correct beat. why does it work in traktor3 eh? somebody wants to make the software worse?
