Ok so I am noticing that I have way too many folders on my External HDD, and I am wanting to organize my tracks a little bit better. How is this going to affect my gridded and analyzed tracks? If I move them will Traktor find the settings for them?

I'm using Traktor 2.53 which may have some minor differences on this from 3.2x. I would not assume that I could move the files and Traktor will find them. What I would do is this:

1 - write all the tags (including stripes) to the mp3 files, so the analysis info and beatmarkers etc are copied from the collection datafiles to the mp3 files extended tag area. Depending on how you are running Traktor, the mp3 files may already contain this information.

2 - Copy the mp3 files to the new locations (so the original files stay where they are). You could also do a "move" (such as a simple drag & drop of the files) which is slightly more dangerous because there is a small possibility something went wrong and the mp3 files do not contain the stripes and beatmarkers etc.

3 - Import the files into the Traktor collection from the new folder locations. Traktor should find all the analysis info, stripes, beatmarkers, etc in the mp3 file and it will use this data so you do not need to re-analyze or make new beatmarkers. I never want to risk the situation where I lose my beatmarkers/cue markers/comments/genres etc since in total there are probably weeks of work involved in setting them up.

4 - Check to make sure the newly imported tracks are OK and contain stripes, beatmarkers etc. It should not be necessary to re-analyze or set new beatmarkers or other markers.

5 - You will have 2 versions of the tracks now, from the original and new locations. Since you now know the new tracks are OK you can delete the tracks that are in the original locations. Done.

<Sorry for me posting basicly the same question in the other thread but I thought it'd be fitting to ask it here aswell>

Hi Vince. May I ask how you can write the tags including stripes ti the mp3 files?

by choosing the respective tag writing function in the prefs and then rightclicking the collection choosing write tags.

@ vince: i think 2.5 did not have the relocate function?
you can move tracks - they will show then up with an ! next to them. choose these and rightclick > relocate and a dialog opens, which lets you choose the new destinations and it's all good.

    Didn't work :-/
    What I did:
Choose Ext. + Stripe on ID-tag mode in collection preferences.
Wrote File Tags (Async) on a track. Closed down Traktor (just to be sure).
Copied the track to another harddrive, reopened Traktor and loaded the copied track. Beatgrids gone :-/

    What am I doing wrong?

once you load the copied track, right click on it and select read file tags. everything should show up after that!

so if I re-arrange everything to the way I want and then relocate everything, traktor will find the stripe and beatgrids to all my tracks?

To synchronize my desktop & laptop, I copy the tracks AND my collection.nml file. Never had a problem. I still prefer it in 2.5.3; everything comes up exactly as it was on the other machine. T3 wants to reanalyze everything, though markers are there.

you might come across 2 possible bugs.

    a) you still had the track loaded into a deck (or the preview deck) when you wrote tags, did NOT close traktor in between when moving the track over - a file that is in use cannot store information. you have to unload the track beforehand.

    b) the track was already existing on the other computer and you didnt trigger *read tags* beforehand.

Great! Reading this solved the problem for me.

The problem for me was that when i copied GreatTrack from drive C: to external drive D: , Traktor had two copies and somehow didn't want to give GreatTrack on drive D: the same strings as on track C:

When cutting and pasting instead of copying everything went fine.

Hope I made myself understandable :p
