i just want to record a vocal hit in time with another track...

'house music' in tie with another cut...

beatmasher just plays 'h...' to its own rythm...

tried sweeping the dials to no effect...

    any ideas?

The track you are beatmashing needs to be gridded and synced/in time with the master tempo? Could that be it?

it's just a vocal hit... no beat grid at all...

Beatmasher (like many of the effects in Traktor) does not work "correctly" without a grid. Even with a vocal track, you should create a grid that corresponds with where the beats "should be". Traktor will - in most circumstances - be unable to do this automatically.

    or am imisunderstanding beatmasher 2?

i thought it would 'record' a four beat loop of whatever was tapped out?

beat grid marker at 'house', second cue point at 'music'

    still not working...

Cue markers have no effect (no pun) on the grid. You should set the grid marker to a position where a beat "would" occur (apparently you've positioned it correctly, assuming the vocal sample is "in beat") and then modify the detected BPM so that the grid lines are in correct place; the automatically detected BPM is most likely incorrect for the track. You shouldn't worry too much - beatgridding a "beatless" track is a bit more complicated than beatgridding a track that actually has noticeable beats ... it will take a bit of trial and error to get it right.

After you've done this, you will have a gridded vocal sample and the beatmasher should produce much better results for that track... of course, for it to work with other tracks you're playing, you also need to sync the vocal track's tempo to the other track(s).
