I'm in the process of teaching myself to beatmatch by ear which has been going really well. I do however seem to struggle when I load two tracks that are VASTLY different BPM (100 vs 150). But the tempo fader only moves so much, and I do realize that I don't want to move the tempo more than 4-6% without using keylock

What's the best way to go about getting this lined up without cheating and changing my view in traktor to show the BPMs?

I'm still relatively new....go easy! Help is definitely appreciated.

    in a nutshell:
it just makes no point to beatmacht tracks that are 50 beats off.
transitions between this should be usually a cut or something like that.
keylock is as well not working well with this, you`ll receive fragmented and shitty sound.

Got it. What about looping it and easing the BPM down/up into the incoming track?

You can't effectively beatmatch tracks with vastly different BPMs, whether you use loops or not.

So I guess my next question is then.....say I'm DJing at the bar, at the club, for friends, etc and I come across this situation. What do you do? There has got to be an instance where there are two tracks that are hot that are vastly different BPMs and want to play them.

You use more creative transitions, like using an echo out on the first track and bringing in the second, or starting some vocal of the second track in time with the last beat of the first track. These sorts of transitions often happen between Pop songs, which for me, often lead to cut mixing (rapid transition) or alignment of the last beat of the current song and an appropriate beat or sample of the second song. In Hip Hip styles with slower and varied tempo, cut mixing becomes more important.
