After a website outage of more than a day they have it up now. Seems to be working OK here so far. Downloading up to 5 tracks at the same time with FireFox & I only get a CPU load of 3 to 5% on my 2.8 P4 laptop. BTW the tracks I got today are freebies.

They are missing the display of the length of the track which was previously shown in the track player. So we don't know how long the tracks are.

Haaaarg I can not access the website from the office :-( Have to wait till the end of the day to check that out.

If the display of the length of the track is missing that's a big shame. Hope it will come back.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    prices in euros!!!!!!

(now internet music will cost me 20-30% more, plus the fact that Beatport raised prices some months ago)

    One year ago I was paying 1,49$ per track = 1,15 €

Now I'll pay 1,99€ per track!!!!

This means that a crate with 50 tracks costed me 57,5 € one year before.

NOW I'll pay nearly 100€ for it!!!!!!!!!!!

    Euro. There's no plural. ;)

We've had to put up with loosing out on the conversion rate for ages on this side of the pond, now it's your turn. This is just the one true superpower currency (the euro), taking up its rightful place as world leader.

So far the interface isn't conceptually very different, but everything works much faster & smoother. My only complaint is the loss of track length on the player -- definitely gonna email them about that. I hate buying an acapella or loop only to realize I've paid full-track price for a 60-second piece.

Not bad but I see the UI back button still does not take you to the last main page viewed but rather to what ever BP thinks you might want.

Also you can add add Artists and labels to the My ???? but they have not implemented the ability to add tracks which seems to be the feature many users wanted (a way to save info tracks you wanted to remember but did not yet want to buy. It would seem there is a great source of market intelligence waiting to be had here that is not being captured.

I love the "users also bought" section.

Of course I had to take my shot at it today as well. Looks like they're blocking access from elite proxies. Regular anonymous still works, but if I try an elite I get an error page. I'll bang in them a little more in the following days and see what the scoop is.

I AM relieved to see that you can still see songs that aren't available in your region (as before). There was talk about removing them completely from your view if you weren't able to buy them.

this is a price hike of 50%, not a currency conversion issue! i'm in the UK and i'm being ripped off too!

i bought the following 2 tracks from beatport on 28.08.06 for a total of $2.58:

Loco Dice - Cellar Door (fourtwenty) $1.49
Jogging Beat - Roman Flugel's Tender Feet Mix (playhouse) $1.49
    Total: $2.98

my bank statement shows that in UKP it cost me £1.64. if i want to buy the same 2 tracks today it will cost me £2.58.

as another example, the minus records release 'min2max' is now more expensive as a beatport download than it is to buy the CD in my favourite record store.

shame on you beatport. you just lost a customer. your loss is juno and kompakt's gain.

Chris there are some corrections needed in your message..
1/ 28 Aug has not passed yet. (should your date be 28 July?)
2/ Tracks on the album are USD$1.99 (are you saying the price went up from USD$1.49?)

That aside though doesn't change the fact something seems to be going on... Are the prices charged to you correct after currency conversion.

I'm trying to understand if people are saying prices just went up AGAIN! or if there is a problem in currency conversions?

One reason its confusing is that on xe.com right now USD$1.99 converts to 1.49GPB and Beatport sells tracks at USD$1.49.

Before version 3 all the price on the site where in USD and we then purchase the tracks in USD (conversion was made after the purchase by the credit card company).
Now, in version 3, the price in figures are the same BUT the currency that we saw (at least that I saw) is EURO.
So before, 1 track cost 1.99 USD and now it cost 1.99 EUR directly on the website.
This is a hudge rise in price for me.
For people from USA this change nothing but for oversea it change everything.

    Re: Beatport International Charging Errors

Thanks Drixx I was not sure if that was what was being stated. So there are several things here:
1/ ONE IT SUCKS TOTALLY. Its unfair.
2/ Its possibly illegal! Beatport are free to charge what the market will bear but they are apparently acting deceptively. You are NOT allowed to represent the price in one currency and then charge the same amount in a different currency. Its covered under deceptive marketing practices and the watchdogs slap people violating such policies pretty hard.

    Here is what you do.
1/ File a complaint with Beatport and demand a credit adjustment for the error. DON'T ACCEPT NO FOR AN ANSWER! You bought goods at an advertised priced in US dollars. You were charged a higher price in U.S. Dollars. No warning is provided that you will be charged a different amount or the advertised amount in foreign currency. That is illegal it may be covered under credit card fraud.

2/ File a dispute with your credit card issuer and or bank They have 14 days to respond and a further 14 days to act I believe. The issuers take such matters seriously so should you!
3/ Contact the U.S. Commerce Commision and or F.T.C one of the two has jurisdiction over the matter and can either advise on actions or will take the complaint and act, surprisingly quickly.

Federal regulators get involved because it affects international sales and is not a state particular matter, but you could contact authorities in Colorado where I believe Beatport are located. If this is a matter of an accidental screw-up (and since they had it right before I cann't imagine it would be) then Beatport will need to act quickly to correct it. If its intentional but not advertised then the Fed could slap BP for deceptive marketing and charging practices.

For my part I don't buy in to the the theory it was an oversight as part of the Beatport 3.0 beta roll out, nor should those affected.

It's up to those affected by this to act. Us users in the U.S. can contact Beatport to complain, but the real work needs to be done by those who have been affected and to do that you need to do the things noted above. The amount maybe small but don't swallow it! Fight back or you can expect such practices to continue in future.

damn! i wrote a really long reply which has disappeared :(

whoops, yes, it was july 28th
oh dear, it's all getting very confusing!

to clarify, i am in the UK and when i look at beatport v3.0, all the prices are listed in UKP. prior to v3.0 all prices were listed in dollars.

what i see is that the 2 tracks that i mentioned in my previous post cost me a total of $2.98 on 28th july. on my bank statement from that week, i can see that this was converted to £1.64 UKP.

today the same 2 tracks would cost me £2.58 UKP.

i don't think they have merely changed the $ for £ or Euro symbol according to a user's location - it would appear that there are now different prices for different areas, and if you convert all the prices to dollars, we should see the difference. so, let's all try it with this track:

Les Djinns Remixes - Trentmoller remix - Get Physical Music - £1.49 (xe.com converts to $2.82)

can a user in a Euro-paying country do the same, a user in the US tell us how much the track is listed at in dollars?

I'm in Canada - that track (which is currently on the initial Beatport page at the top of the "top downloads" list) shows as $1.99. It doesn't say which currency so I assume it is USA$ as before. It doesn't say if they convert currencies, so I think in my case they are working the same way as before. The credit card company did the currency conversion for me to Canadian dollars (taking a profit of aprox 2% or so on the rates).

The "Forum" link on Beatport doesn't work anymore so we can't see if anyone has cleared up this issue or any others.

    F*#king Beatport.

I bought some music at 8AM this morning to finish out my top 5 selections, but I can't download the songs I purchased even though they are in my que to be downloaded. Keeps giving me an error. I've emailed now 3 times - at 8:30AM, 1PM and just now.

I'm all for setting something up to circumvent the territory and pricing bullshit and am willing to spend time and money making it available to a large group of us. I've set up a place for us to discuss this in more depth. Email me for details.

I'm in the UK and I discovered the new prices immediately. I wrote to Beatport straight away. Here is what I said and their reply is below.

So you can see they fully intended to do this. It is NOT an exchange rate "issue" - it truly does cost more in Europe (especially the UK) for the same track. Beatport did this with NO warning.

I for one will be looking at ways to buy my tracks from Beatport in US dollars exactly how I have been for the last year.
