Every time I start up Traktor Pro I hear a beep. Why is that?

Vague, I know, but I don't see any error message coming up or anything?

I noticed the same thing on Mac. When starting the application, the computer makes a short sound that sounds exactly like the one when a "alert"-dialog pops into view. However, there is no dialog - or any other explanation what might be causing this.

I personally have only noticed this when I've been running Traktor with the internal soundcard. The reason being that when I set up the system on a club (with A8), there is usually too much noice around to notice if there is a short beep or not... and for some reason, "hunting the beep" is not on the top of my personal todo-list at that point in any case.

    Hi DN,

Yup I'm using a Mac too... Snow Leopard (clean install) plus Traktor Pro 1.2.1 with an Audio 8 DJ. Still hear the beep using an external audio interface.

Snow Leopard here, I posted about this when SL first came out. Something is throwing an error message, check your console to see it. Weird since Traktor works perfectly fine on SL for me so far.

    64 bit the culprit?

Any thoughts? I get the same error beep but no error. I've only had this problem since TP1.2 boots on OS10.6. I know if you open the app and go into the "get info"section you can force Traktor to open in 32 bit mode. Even still I have no issues with the beep, I'd just like to know whats causing it. If you know how to make it go away, or even if anyone knows if we just need to wait for an update I'd be happy to move this issue to my "solved" box.

Yes any word from NI would be nice. I'm at least a bit "happier" to know that it's not specific to my installation but probably a Snow Leopard/Traktor Pro problem.

    NI any word?

Forgot to add I'm running in 64-bit when I get that error and beep. I don't think I get it in 32-bit.

Furthermore, I get the beep even though I'm not running Snow Leopard. The error I'm getting at the console is the same as on TeLLy's screenshot:

The file /Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Hardware/NIHardwareAgent.app does not exist.
NHL.Controller: Unable to send message to server
NHL.Controller: Unable to connect to hardware controller

...it's not that I'm overly worried as such - it's just a bit "odd" :p

If you get a beep while you're playing something else may be wrong. Are you seeing any error messages? Is it a super-loud, super-long beep, or just a quick little Mac-error-message kind of beep?

Hey everyone. I posted this to Vangelis over at Technical Support and uploaded my console log for the NI developers to look at. They came back with the following:

"Our developer in Berlin took a look at your logs and the only thing that he
can see right now, is that the NI hardware service was not installed. This
could be the problem. Are you using any Of our soundcards? Can you try
uninstalling and reinstalling the driver as explained here:

    http://www.native-instruments.com/knowledge/questions/497/ "

My answer to this is yes, I'm using the Audio 8 DJ.

    I did the following:

    - Formatted my MacBook Pro
    - Installed Snow Leopard
    - Upgraded to 10.6.1 and iTunes 9
    - Installed the latest Audio 8 DJ driver from the unprotected section on NI's website.
    - Installed Traktor Pro 1.2.1 from NI's website.

So my questions to everyone else experiencing this are:

    1. Are you using a Mac?
    2. Are you using a NI audio interface?
    3. Do you have the NI Hardware Service running? If so, what is that?

I'm not a big fan or un-installing/re-installing so I want to see what other profiles are out there before I start messing around on my computer.

    Thank you,
    Keith

While that is correct, you have to manually enable Snow Leopard to boot into 64 Bit mode so the majority of users running Snow Leopard are running it in 32 bit mode.

My SL machine (64-bit) is only for use with the Korg Zero4, so no, I don't have the Audio8 drivers even installed.

I have a Dell XPS M1210, XP 32bit, itunes on it, audio 8, and the freaking beep is there. I installed and unistalled 1.2 and same thing. I tested 1.2 with windows 7 in the same machine and YEP, there it is...the beep!

I went back to the prior version cause I gig often and I can't have this happen again live.

I loved the fact that you can control the internal EQ, so I miss that part from 1.2

I hope they come with a solution soon.

Ok, to mitigate the bip problem on a mac:

Open System prefs. Go to 'Sound', then to the 'Sound Effects' tab, then select 'Internal speakers' in the 'Play alert...' pop up.

This way the bip (and any other alert) will sound through your laptop speakers, and won't be heard on the club speakers, which is really the only thing you should be worried about here :D

ETA: You can also turn the alert volume all the way down, since using different soundcards for system alerts and main sound output has a small performance hit.

Question for everyone out there experiencing this. Do you have the HD/Application support/native instruments folder on your hard drive (that path is mac-specific). My computer does NOT have that folder...

Again this was on a clean install where I installed the latest Audio 8 drivers first, then installed Traktor Pro 1.2.1 (did not upgrade) via offline authorization.
